What’s the job? 

Be part of our student life and shape the future of Torrens University Australia’s Counselling Education team as Counselling Educator. Educators must work to ensure students are provided with the best opportunity to attain learning outcomes/competencies and satisfactorily complete their assessment tasks. Lecturers must participate in course review initiatives, including validation and moderation activities and are required to be available to provide student support outside of timetabled class hours. 

Day-to-day accountabilities: 

  • Manage small or large, blended/hybrid and or/online classes, as well as monitor and ensure participation of students.  

  • Manage their own and the student’s time and attention to learning effectively  

  • Validate and review teaching materials and make any recommendations necessary as per organisational policy and procedures  

  • Make proper use of all current subject / unit outlines, teaching material (shared lesson plans, slides, videos, etc.) and student learning materials (texts, workbooks, handouts, study guides, interactive PDFs, portal content, journal articles, etc.),  

  • Utilise learning technology effectively and embed in subject or unit delivery,  

  • Engage in student centered learning and teaching practices including, but not limited to, competency-based learning and assessment, flipped learning, maintaining an active and positive education experience  

  • Engage with models of best practice in applying competency based pedagogical principles, instructional strategies, and communication strategies appropriate to the learners; including modes of instruction and the educational context of Torrens Global Education (TGE)

This is a fully online CASUAL position with the ability to work remotely, we have flexibility of days and times to suit the right candidates. We are ideally looking for a start date ASAP and to continue throughout 2025. 
 

What do you require to a successful candidate?  

  • Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with LLN competency OR  

  • Any Post graduate adult education qualification    

  • Experience in education / training and assessment at the CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling is preferred 

  • Understanding of pedagogical and/or adult learning principles relevant to teaching counselling subjects units including: theoretical components and interpersonal skills, case management and mental health  

  • Appropriately qualified in the relevant discipline for level of teaching (qualified to Diploma level or higher than the course of study being taught) 

  • Sound understanding and practice of professional counselling for at least two years  

  • Full membership of PACFA or ACA counselling association 

The Subjects required to teach are listed below, so any experience around the below areas of expertise are welcome:  

CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety 

CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice 

CHCCSL002 Apply specialist interpersonal and counselling interview skills 

CHCCSL004 Research and apply personality and development theories 

CHCCSL007 Support counselling clients in decision-making processes 

CHCCSM005 Develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and commitment to continuous professional development and Ability to work competently and harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds 

  • Tech and professional Skills: Computer literacy in appropriate discipline-specific and learning technologies as per business requirements. 

  • Passion for the industry: High service ethos and work commitment and understanding of pedagogical and/or adult learning principles relevant to teaching counselling subjects units including theoretical components and interpersonal skills, case management and mental health
