About the Client:

Almstead Tree and Shrub Care Co. is a second-generation, family-owned firm established in 1964. We have five branch locations servicing commercial and residential clients throughout the NY, NJ, and CT tri-state area. In addition, we have several Real Estate investments that include commercial and residential leases.

We are seeking a Controller, well-versed in the service industry, able to see the big picture while rolling up their sleeves on the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. Duties will include all aspects of general ledger accounting including primary participation in monthly and year end closing, budgeting, reporting, costing and analysis.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate for this position must be well organized with the ability to multi-task and to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. They must have an eye for detail and a high level of accuracy, strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to carry out tasks autonomously, as well as, collaboratively across all functional areas, with other departments and corporate entities. This individual should be dependable with good time management skills in order to meet deadlines in a timely and efficient manner. High communication skills and the ability to provide leadership to remote employees is a must to successfully fulfill this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Management and leadership of remote Teams and Employees
  • Daily general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, commissions, and accounting for production
  • Accounts Receivable management and evaluations from daily collections thru legal collection process.
  • Fixed assets and depreciation calculations
  • Inter-company reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, interest and provision calculations
  • Job costing for prevailing wage jobs, cost of services for our 4 service lines, equipment or supplies
  • Taxes: state sales & use tax returns for all applicable states
  • Monthly and annual general ledger close
  • Monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting package preparation along with interim inter-company reporting as required
  • Annual Insurance audits.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and on-going maintenance of forecasts
  • Development of new spread sheets and reports for analysis as needs arise
  • Oversee a staff of 3 responsible for payroll and accounts payable
  • Oversee branch employees as their function relates to accounting processes.
  • Manage portfolio of Real Estate investments including cost containment and collection of monthly and annual lease/rental payments.
  • Monitoring of all lease and legal documents and ensuring dates commitments and renewals are kept current.
  • Become a key person with the rollout of our new business operation systems as they reflect and connect into the accounting department.
  • Develop all accounting employees detailed written outlines complete with job descriptions.
  • Maintain and keep current Fixed Assets and loan accounts.
  • Prepare valuation and market value analysis for Investments, loans, Real Estate and Fixed Assets.
  • Management of daily reports and reconciliations from Branches.


Requirements

  • The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 5+ years of experience in hands-on full cycle accounting in a service company.
  • A well-organized professional with a great eye for detail and a high level of accuracy, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, strong time management skills, able to multi-task and prioritize projects and assignments to meet strict deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive to carry out tasks both autonomously and collaboratively with excellent communications and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to work from 8AM - 5PM EST
