Job description

On the Xbox Marketing team, we aspire to extend the joy and community of gaming to everyone on the planet. Xbox Marketing is looking for a Chief of Staff, Marketing Strategy and Analytics.

With the Xbox marketing team growing in complexity and responsibility, there is a critical need for coordination across teams to ensure that we are highly aligned with our stated objectives. Some projects traverse between teams within Xbox (i.e., Xbox device/Game Pass) and require budget, strategy, and creative coordination, these are all areas that this role would support. With a broad perspective across the team and entire fiscal year budget this person will help ensure we are planning in such a way that we are maximizing our resources.

There also exists a need and opportunity to add more rigor to how we evaluate marketing performance, and this role would be positioned to develop improved measurement and evaluation of strategies and tactics. This entails full-cycle experiments, hypothesis-driven learning, building KPIs and dashboards, marketing attribution work etc. all with an eye towards improving core consumer metrics such as CACs and LTVs. The output of this role would be to increase team efficacy through regular measurement and candid performance reviews.

The other area this role will cover is support of the VP of Xbox Marketing to ensure that high priority topics are being addressed in a timely manner, coordinate on priorities, and to help maximize schedule efficiency.

Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy & Analysis:

  • Identify and outline all customer touchpoints and journeys with Xbox properties (Xbox Console, PC and mobile properties, Game Pass holistically, third party hardware, Xbox accessories) as well as Microsoft Gaming properties.
  • Map consumer journeys across Xbox and Microsoft Gaming properties.
  • Work to quantify profitability of all touchpoints and strategize how to optimize marketing spend based on expected ROI.
  • Create consumer-centric strategies to maximize quality of consumer journeys across all properties (i.e., subscriptions, storefronts etc.).
  • Develop, implement, and continually improve framework for measuring marketing impact (ROI) across paid channels while considering owned and operated capabilities, partnering closely with Marketing teams as well as Business Planning and Data Science.
  • Build test & learn programs integrating inputs from multiple teams.
  • Build recommendation for bottoms-up budget and investment scenarios for long-range
  • marketing planning.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement via quarterly marketing business reviews, highlighting industry and consumer trends, measurement learnings and adoption, and playbook updates.
  • Optimize global and regional strategies by highlighting areas of opportunity for spending efficacy and efficiency, as well as best practices across the Microsoft Gaming organization.
  • Work with Product teams to automate marketing efforts and reporting.

Chief Of Staff

  • Coordinate among Marketing and Product Marketing teams to unify strategies, measurement approaches, goals, share learnings, and showcase the team’s output to the larger company.
  • Aligning team on outlook, priorities, and quarterly/annual roadmaps.
  • Serve as hub for best practices and coordination of requests with partner teams (e.g., Data Analytics, Business Planning, CI).
  • Ensure consistency in brand voice and messaging across Xbox marketing executions
  • Identify opportunities for scale and efficiency across Xbox and broader Microsoft Gaming entities.
  • Lead Bi-annual Cross-Marketing Team investment committee meeting to coordinate spend activities and optimize marketing spend
  • Represent Marketing in corporate strategy exercises related to long range planning (e.g., mobile strategy).
  • Conduct quarterly competitive marketing benchmarking to understand key player positioning, evolving strategies and make recommendations to marketing leadership team accordingly.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Business Development, Business Management, Communications, or related field AND 7+ years sales, marketing, or business development experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years in a large consumer-facing media or entertainment company, with experience in Marketing strategy and analytics.
Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years in marketing strategy & analytics, consulting, or data science, along with a track record of working with senior executives to guide large investment decisions and drive significant change.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous problems and solve them in a hypothesis-driven way.
  • Fluency in translating complex data sets into actionable insights for multiple teams and demonstrated ability to drive operational changes.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, A/B testing, experimentation as well as visualization tools.
  • Strategic mindset including interpreting data to inform strategy and execution in closer partnership with Product, Marketing, and Data Science teams.
  • Deep exposure to and understanding of media/entertainment consumer subscription businesses, including experience in content-driven businesses and metrics.
  • Experience in MMM, attribution, marketing measurement, creative optimization, funnel optimization, cohort analyses, regression models etc.
  • Passion for gaming of all types.

Partner Marketing IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $248,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $268,900 per year.
