IntraHealth Namibia (IHN) has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Research Specialist. IHN has demonstrated experience achieving results under various health programs including HIV and TB programming, health information system strengthening, and human resources for health, among others. IHN has identified a need for additional support in planning, executing and delivering research products.

The PCRV will work in close collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning program and under the guidance of the Program Director to support all research undertakings, research leadership, management and research engagement activities. The PCRV will also provide support to the organization through advancing leadership skills, offering coaching and mentoring and will foster a research culture while and acting as champion for IntraHealth Namibia's research agenda.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Namibia together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in a social science, international development, public health or related field
  • Minimum of three years relevant professional experience in the public health or international development.
  • Background in having worked in a position of leading research activities
  • Up-to-date knowledge of research methods and techniques
  • Demonstrated research experience in the public health sector
  • Demonstrated understanding of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Experience of collecting data with people who may (or may not) be vulnerable
  • Skills in planning and coordinating research tasks
  • Literature searching and report writing skills
  • Competent in the use data analysis software both qualitative and statistical software Knowledge of data management processes such as anonymisation of interview transcripts
  • Experience of managing research projects and teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate actively within the NGO sector and externally to complete research projects and advance thinking
  • Ability to balance the pressures of research, administrative demands and competing deadlines
