Navigators Re (“NavRe”) is a division of The Hartford writing assumed treaty reinsurance with the following characteristics:

  • Founded in 2010;
  • 2024 estimated annual GWP of $850 million;
  • 70+ colleagues managing underwriting, distribution, actuarial, finance, contract, claims, information technology and operations;
  • A global footprint with offices in Stamford, CT, Morristown, NJ, Coral Gables, FL, London and Zurich;
  • Many of the markets in which Nav Re currently competes are exhibiting favorable trading conditions; 

Reporting to the Lead Actuary for NavRe, this position is part of an actuarial team responsible for treaty pricing and portfolio management for a variety of lines of business, including but not limited to Global Property, Professional Liability, Casualty, Agriculture, Surety, Political Risk, Trade Credit, and Group Life & Benefits (LatAm).

Responsibilities:

  • Support treaty pricing for new and renewal business across all lines
  • Collaborate with underwriters to develop pricing recommendations
  • Document pricing decisions and evaluate risk transfer
  • Solve problems in collaboration with global underwriting teams and business partners, including CAT Modeling, Actuarial Reserving, Claims, Operations, and Finance
  • Develop and support best-in-class pricing and modeling tools
  • Support pricing studies and pricing audits

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in reinsurance or complex pricing, modeling or related actuarial function.
  • Recent ACAS preferred.  Strong Student Program Rotational and Exam Support for candidates meeting program requirements. Candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered.
  • Strong technical, analytical and data skills; Excel required and experience with R, Python and/or VBA preferred.
  • Experience in Professional Liability and/or Casualty lines of business is preferred.
  • Experience working independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Self-motivation, creativity, time-management, and project-management skills will be beneficial in this role. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse technical backgrounds. 
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing priorities. 
  • Process improvement mindset and skilled at developing efficiencies.
  • BA or BS degree, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics or related field of study.

Location:

  • This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office in Hartford, CT, Stamford, CT; New York, NY; or Chicago, IL at least three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Some travel is required.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$90,000 - $140,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
