The US Census Bureau is undergoing a digital transformation in preparation for the 2030 Decennial Census and seeks to integrate advanced technologies and techniques to enhance and scale up the Decennial System of Systems (SoS). The 2030 Decennial Census program will grow to become one of the largest, most innovative Federal Civilian production environments within AWS GovCloud. T-Rex Solutions LLC seeks a Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus in AI/ML methodologies and significant hands-on experience in Cloud Native development to drive the creation of next-generation, data-driven applications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and Prototype Advanced Solutions: Lead Cloud Native development initiatives with a strong focus on AI/ML and data science. Design and prototype robust applications that integrate complex data processing methods and functions tailored to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the 2030 Decennial SoS.
- This role is not focused on LLM, ChatGPT or other similar technologies, it instead focuses on and requires linking and matching AI experience. The primary responsibility in the role is not developing algorithms, but integrating algorithms under development by other Census teams.
- Technical Collaboration and Leadership: Work collaboratively with application engineering, DevOps teams, and data scientists to ensure full integration and optimization of AI/ML models and Big Data processing. Provide technical leadership in data analysis, model verification, implementation reviews, and performance enhancement.
- Code Development and Documentation: Take responsibility in maintaining a clean, efficient, version controlled code base. Ensure thorough documentation of development processes, release notes, and data sets for future reference and policy compliance.
- Innovation: Engage in brainstorming sessions and propose innovative solutions and approaches that take full advantage of AWS cloud-native services and technologies to meet the evolving needs of the US Census Bureau.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, complemented by at least 8 years of hands-on development experience, preferably in government-related projects or other high-stakes, public-facing environments.
- Technical Expertise: Proven mastery in Cloud-Native development, with a strong focus on Python and PySpark, AWS SageMaker, and a solid track record of developing, deploying, and managing sophisticated cloud-native solutions. C# and other similar development skills are also critical.
- Advanced Data Handling: Proven capability in data engineering or data science, with practical experience using AWS SageMaker and other industry-standard data analytics tools.
- Security and Citizenship: US Citizenship is required with the ability to pass a Department of Commerce Public Trust investigation.

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $210,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. T-Rex considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
