About 1Password:
We all have important information we need to manage, and protecting it should be easy. Over 150,000 businesses and millions of people log in to 1Password to unlock smart, simple access to everything they care about. Our vision is to create a safer, simpler digital future for everyone, and our culture values simplicity, honesty and a human-centric approach to solving problems. Come help us unlock peace of mind so everyone can stay safer online.

Here at 1Password we are deeply committed to customer privacy and security. The Security Team is passionate about our role in that mission and the ideal candidate for these roles will share our excitement.

We’re looking for an experienced technical leader to champion security engineering efforts across 1Password. As part of the Security Engineering organization, you will be responsible for developing solutions that identify and automatically remediate application security and infrastructure security problems across multiple tech stacks. You will also be responsible for leading Secure-by-Default initiatives on our production platform with other engineers.

Successful candidates will land in one of three possible teams depending on their interest and/or background: Application Security, Infrastructure Security, or Security Assurance & Testing.

This is a Remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What you can expect:
  • Design, build, and maintain tooling, software, and systems for securing our cloud infrastructure and/or application platform.
  • Apply software development skills and experience to implement high-impact security software solutions.
  • Own the delivery and success of security engineering projects that span engineering teams.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to define the best security solutions for our platform, reducing unnecessary friction, while maintaining a high degree of software development velocity.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to fellow engineers on the team.

  • What we're looking for:
  • Minimum of 4 years combined experience in software and/or security engineering.
  • Demonstrated success at designing, implementing, deploying, securing, and monitoring critical production systems with broad company impact.
  • Strong hands-on experience with software development.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in cross-functional communication and building strong technical partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate technical and compliance requirements into engineering execution.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and tasks, drive project execution to delivery, work through others as needed, and plan future work.
  • Hands-on experience building or implementing solutions in one or more of the following security problem domains on the production platform; e.g. identity & access management, software supply chain security / build integrity, infrastructure systems or application security hardening, automated security reviews, codescanning, automated vulnerability management, etc.
  • Experience with the following is a plus: infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform), static application security tooling (e.g. Semgrep, Renovate), containerization platform security (e.g. Kubernetes, Linkerd, etc.)
  • Experience with one or more of the following languages is highly recommended: Golang, Rust, Javascript/Typescript, Ruby on Rails.
  • USA-based roles only: The Annual base salary for this role is between $153,000 USD and $207,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
