The Area Sales Manager works within an assigned territory developing and implementing a sales plan to grow the Zurn Elkay businesses. The position is responsible for sales growth and market share opportunities with new and existing customers. The ASM participates in major selling situations and monitors on a monthly basis all sales activity within their region. 

Responsibilities

  • Implements and executes a detailed business plan and sales strategy to attain revenue expectations.
  • Responsible for achieving the annual sales quota and profitability goals for all product lines.
  • Instructs and counsels ZSR’s (Zurn Elkay Sales Reps) to drive the strategic breakthrough activities within their region while creating capability and capacity within their organization.
  • ASM to review and assess product line sales performance, commissions, and strategic KPI’s with ZSR on monthly basis, including development of forward looking product demand forecasts (SIOP).
  • Continually monitor rep effectiveness against prior year and regional competitors, communicating competitive movements to sales and product management teams.
  • Proactively communicates countermeasure actions to Business Development Manager – National Accounts & Western Canada, if annual sales quota or KPI’s are below threshold measurements.
  • Work closely with the ZSR’s to understand and align their organization’s short term and long term business plans with Zurn Elkay.
  • RSM to understand ZSR organizational health, territory issues, succession plans, and percent of selling time/commission relationship to Zurn Elkay.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to develop strategic breakthrough sales strategies in conjunction with product management tailored to territory conditions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with entire channel within region including Owner, Property Manager, Engineer, Contractor and Wholesalers.
  • Identify and prioritize strategic conversion opportunities with Contractor, Engineers and Distribution teams.
  • Assess and measure rebate effectiveness with contractors and distributors. ASM responsible for developing a regional process to prequalify contractor and distributor partners based on percent of spend, measuring success, and rationalizing ineffective programs. This process is reviewed quarterly with ZSR’s.
  • Works with product management and engineering to provide “Voice of the Customer” product and service feedback as it relates to Zurn Elkay, our competitors, and emerging trends.
  • Schedules and manages travel and ZSR/customer meetings within the territory.
  • Train and educate ZSR’s as required.
  • Provide assistance at trade shows and/or specialized training seminars.
  • Continually expand product knowledge and product applications understanding to leverage Zurn Elkay systems sales opportunities.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and advocates the Zurn Elkay core values and principles.

Experience and Skill Required

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferably in marketing or management.
  • Proven 3 to 5 years sales management/technical experience calling on owners, specifiers, contractors, and distributors for plumbing related products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to travel a minimum of 50% of the time to achieve annual sales goals.
