We are currently recruiting for a Relationship Manager for our Global Corporate & Investment Banking Division in Amsterdam.

Your impact at MUFG

You will manage and grow a designated portfolio of customer relationships, marketing the full range of MUFG products and services in order to achieve an acceptable level of profit, risk and return in line with agreed business plans.

Function positioning

The function is part of the Global Corporate Investment Banking (GCIB) Division, managing MUFG’s Large Corporate Clients in The Netherlands and Belgium-Luxembourg. The division supports MUFG’s strategy to become the world’s leading debt house and strategic partner to Investment Grade and Non-Investment Grade Corporate Clients in EMEA by increasing the customer base and developing ancillary business, enhancing NOP and RoE. Credit analysis on GCIB clients is conducted with the help of the Credit Analysis Department, KYC review is conducted with the help of the KYC/CSO Department. The GCIB BeNeLux team defines the strategy in consultation and in line with GCIB EMEA business strategy, and selects the prospect names which fit the onboarding criteria of GCIB. The profit target is determined in joint cooperation with the planning department and Head of Corporate Banking GCIB EMEA.

The role includes the following:

  • Manage, develop and grow a portfolio of existing and targeted new GCIB clients in line with the bank's credit policy and onboarding criteria.
  • Demonstrate active Relationship Management and effective marketing of designated customers to include strong and effective partnerships with all stakeholders including Credit, Products, the Global Network where applicable
  • Achieve individual and collective Financial and Non-Financial Performance Targets in consultation with the Head of GCIB.
  • Manage and monitor business plans for the portfolio in order to meet customer profitability requirements and business objectives including NOP, RoE enhancement, Customer Classification Category and Balance Sheet Management.
  • Maintain a pipeline reflecting the stages of new business opportunities, conduct successful deal screenings in line with procedure and full buy in of stakeholders.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of credit applications in consultation with all stakeholders and prepare the proposal in order to seek credit approval.
  • Develop business leads and introductions with Products around the globe, as appropriate, in order to maximise business growth for the MUFG Group.
  • To consult with Legal, Credit, Tax and Compliance and take appropriate commercial decision in co-operation with Head of GCIB to review, negotiate and implement legal documentation including loans, ensuring full compliance with Credit, Sanctions, Bank and Regulatory Policy and other Applicable Policies.
  • Maintain regular contact with the customers at both Treasurer and C-Suite level, with regular visits at Group Treasurer level or above, as well as CFO meeting regularly.
  • To attend and represent the bank at internal and external events including banker’s meetings, treasury fairs, client events, and also to participate in CSR events.
  • Provide advice, guidance and coaching to junior team members, sharing best practice across the EMEA GCIB Coverage teams (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan).
  • Liaising with other banks and legal counsel on syndicated facilities.
  • Ensuring robust credit quality is maintained, credit papers are of highest quality possible and credit risk managed within parameters set.
  • Supporting KYC outreach and review, ensuring timely completion of periodic reviews.

In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:

Skills and experience:

  • A strong intellectual and professional background equivalent to a WO / HBO level, ideally with senior expertise in economics or administrative education.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English is essential.
  • Required knowledge and experience with relevant products offered by MUFG, including Transaction Banking, Working Capital Solutions, Forex and Derivatives, Debt Capital & Loan Markets, Aircraft Finance, Commodity Finance, ECA Finance and Project Finance.
  • Experienced with applicable legislation and regulation, including KYC/Wft.
  • Knowledge of and experience with all relevant systems and automated database applications.
  • Social skills are required to maintain good internal and external contacts. A co-operative spirit, a pro-active attitude and own initiatives are essential as well as a service-minded approach. Besides that, flexibility and communication (advisory, consulting) skills and convincing power are important.
