Job description

Job Title:

Manager, Truck Procurement

Location:

Lombard, IL. This position will follow a hybrid work-from-home/office model with at least three days in the office weekly 

Role Summary:

Pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing our inland network. You will lead a team of analysts, ensuring efficient and effective procurement processes. You will be expected to achieve and exceed operational targets within your area of expertise, regionally and departmentally. Identify opportunities to enhance existing processes and standards, aligning them with division goals. Manage your team to foster a productive and collaborative work environment, providing short-term tactical and operational guidance.

  • Inland logistics, intermodal operations knowledge     
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel including formulas
  • Prior transportation equipment experience required 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Resolve operational issues: Provide timely support to Inland Operations teams to address challenges and maintain smooth operations.
  • Strategic planning: Anticipate and plan for unique scenarios to ensure the efficient functioning of the inland network.
  •  Negotiate rates: Negotiate favorable truck rates with carriers to optimize costs.
  • Review and analyze rates: Conduct regular reviews and analyses of truck rates to identify opportunities for improvement.
  •  Approve rates: Authorize truck rate changes and approvals.
  • RFP process: Develop and manage the RFP process for rolling out new truck procurement initiatives.
  • KPI development and monitoring: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators.
  • Cost and volume metrics: Develop reports to measure and analyze cost and volume metrics related to truck procurement.
  •  Database maintenance: Maintain truck rate databases in the ONE system.
  •  Route management: Ensure the accuracy and alignment of inland routes.
  • Intermodal route analysis: Input and analyze intermodal routes to identify opportunities for cost optimization.
  •  Vendor relationships: Build and maintain strong working relationships with truck vendors.
  •  Sales & Commercial support: Provide cost and service information to Commercial Teams.
  • 3rd party platform contracts: Manage contracts for 3rd party platforms used for intermodal truck drayage.

Required Minimum Years Experience:

3+ yrs management/supvervisory experience and 5+ function/industry-related

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
