About The Role

Monks is on the lookout for a Business Affairs Manager to join the in-house Legal & Business Affairs team, which works closely together with our content production teams.

Location: This is primarily a remote role, but you will work with clients and other team members across North America. Detroit, Chicago, or New York preferred.

This role is to strategize and advise on all Business Affairs matters related to the production of work for an iconic automotive brand, and to help create ground-breaking work, a future vision, and growth for the account. The role will involve creative review to identify any featured intellectual property licenses needed, budgeting, network clearance, contract review and negotiation, rights management and working with legal to resolve any issues that may arise during production.

Responsibilities


  • In this role you will be part of the Monks US Legal & Business Affairs team and provide production support to all Monks entities in the Americas with a focus on servicing our automotive client based in Detroit.
  • You will work alongside agency producers for timely bidding of projects, finalizing client estimates, negotiating various production-related agreements, declaring production insurance, and advising on all network compliance and clearance matters.
  • You will handle talent for both SAG Union and Non-Union productions; estimating talent session and usage costs, issuing and interpreting all talent contracts and advising on usage rights and other related issues, processing payments and drafting final completion reports for tracking purposes.
  • You will also be responsible for the wrap-up process for all of our live action productions together with the Lead EP or producer on the production.
  • You will work closely together with our internal legal team, including the VP, Legal & Business Affairs, with regards to production, intellectual property rights management, music rights, talent rights, and other clearance matters.
  • Reports into the Director of Business Affairs for input in connection with matters relating to your day-to-day responsibilities.


About You

The essentials:


  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience, in-house experience is required — preferably within the digital production industry.
  • Demonstrable skills in strategic Business Affairs. Enthusiasm to work in a team, but also independence to work with minimal supervision.
  • Fluent in English. Any other language skills are a bonus.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience with content and media production and right clearance.
  • In-depth knowledge of SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract and talent residual payments.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on tasks in new areas of the industry.
  • Confidence in your business/commercial awareness.
  • The ideal candidate will be proactive, hands-on, result-oriented, and able to work under pressure of tight deadlines and accuracy. In other words, a self-starter with a strong work ethic
