Job description

Our story:

Every year millions of people are either filing their taxes in fear or giving up on their tax refund altogether. We're working on fixing that. Our intuitive app enables anyone, regardless of education or background, to file their taxes with newfound confidence.

Spread across Germany, Spain and the UK, the team at Taxfix Group with its brands Taxfix, Steuerbot and TaxScouts, is a compassionate group of solution-finders. We speak our minds openly, and with over 400 professionals, including tax experts, developers, and IT security experts, we're rich in ideas and voices. The group has facilitated more than 3.5 billion euros in tax refunds for its customers since its founding in 2016

Your challenge:

The Engineering Manager role at Taxfix is one of the most significant and challenging roles at the company. The right candidate is both hands on – technically excellent, with solid architectural and engineering principles – and also exhibits strong leadership and people development skills.

We are looking for a world class Engineering manager to lead our Tax Engine team - a core component in our architecture and a significant growth lever. You must be an engineering leader who masters technology to the point where you can make architectural trade offs, decide when to use which technology and push the platform forward to the next level.

Your team:

Reporting to the Director of Product Engineering and part of the tech management team, this role requires an exceptional individual who can inspire, lead, and be a collaborative sparring partner to Product and help us shape the technology and architecture of our Tax Engine.

We believe Engineering managers and leaders at all levels should be professionals at technology and be able to jump into any project and understand the bits & bolts of the technologies their teams use. If you are one of those people that don’t want to “just manage” and still excited about building things along with building teams, you will fit here very well.

Your responsibilities and decisions:
  •  Technical Leadership & Strategy: Lead and technical direction and strategy for the development and evolution of our Tax Engine. Provide technical leadership and guidance, drive technical excellence and innovation and ensure the adoption of best practices and tools to provide a personalized and automated experience to our users.

  •  Team Management & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of mobile App and Web, FE and BE engineers. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure team alignment with the company's goals and objectives. Oversee the professional development and growth of the engineering team, identifying training needs and opportunities for advancement.

  • Architecture & Design: Oversee the architecture and design of the Tax Engine. Ensure velocity, reliability, scalability, security and cost efficiency. Work closely with Product and Design to find opportunities to solve customers problems and align technical design solutions with customers needs.

  • Quality & Performance: Establish and enforce quality standards and best practices for software design, development and operation. Ensure our products meet performance benchmarks and provide a seamless and reliable experience to our customers. Define and track Key Performance Indicators to drive continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, and Platform engineering to ensure seamless product lifecycle management from concept to deployment and operation. Communicate technical KPIs, insights and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels, including non-technical audiences.

Your profile:
  •  At least 2 years of experience managing product engineering teams

  • Extensive experience designing, building and operating scalable, high-performance B2C products

  • Extremely proficient in GO programming language

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to a large number of technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • You are a diversity champion

  • Experience in fintech or related industries is a plus
