Job Summary:

Purdue University Global offers term by term, non-tenured teaching appointments to qualified individuals who are dedicated to providing quality educational experiences to students in Associates, Bachelors and Masters degree programs. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to work in a professional learning community wherein faculty contribute to and engage in instructional best practice for adult learners in an innovative, nontraditional university setting.

Our Opportunity:

The School of Health Sciences has an opening for a fully remote adjunct teaching position in the Bachelor of Health Information Management program and Medical Billing and Coding certificate. We are seeking a professional trained in medical coding who holds an AHIMA-approved credential.

What to expect in this role:
  • Provide an engaging learning environment that supports student success
  • Teach synchronous seminars (10-week units) as assigned by the school or program.
  • Ensuring timely management and response to electronic correspondence from students, administrators, and other school officials.
  • Partner with advisors to address student concerns.
  • Remain current with trends, techniques, and technology.
  • Maintaining and submitting accurate and timely reports for student grades/progress.
  • Staying active in the unit discussion boards.
  • Enforcing student conduct policies as outlined in the University Catalog.
  • Attending university, departmental, and faculty meetings as requested.
  • Maintenance of a professional development plan.
  • Additional duties as may be assigned by the School.
What we're looking for:
  • Required
    • Master's degree and an RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P credential.
    • Minimum 3 years of current experience working in medical coding, billing, or revenue cycle management in a healthcare setting.
  • Preferred
    • Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems.
    • Familiarity with coding simulators, Virtual Labs (like AHIMA’s VLab)
    • Experience with curriculum development and instructional design
    • Higher education online teaching experience
  • Exceptional computer skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles and methods to suit different audiences.
  • Exceptional computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and Zoom meeting technology. Experience with Brightspace education software is preferred.
  • A dedication to student success and the ability to engage and inspire students in the classroom.
  • A willingness to work as part of a team and collaborate with other faculty members to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment, across diverse teams, departments, and Schools.
Additional Information:
  • Purdue University Global will not sponsor employment authorization for this
  • position.
  • Adjunct compensation varies per course based on student enrollment, program type and also includes a contribution to a retirement account. A typical adjunct in the School of General Education can expect to receive $2800 per full 10-week course. Retirement account benefits include an automatic 403(b) company contribution of 3% and a company match up to an additional 4% with participation in an optional 457(b) plan.
  • This is a remote position; no relocation is required. Candidates must be based in and legally authorized to work in the United States.
