Your missions

We are a U.S.-based construction company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to support pre-construction mark-up work. This is a remote, independent contractor role based in Colombia, where the ideal candidate will have experience designing and marking up electrical systems for construction projects, ensuring compliance with both U.S. and Colombian engineering standards.

What You'll Do

  • Pre-Construction Mark-Ups: Collaborate remotely with U.S.-based pre-construction and project teams to provide electrical design mark-ups, focusing on power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and other electrical components.

  • Electrical Design: Create detailed electrical design drawings, schematics, and layouts using bluebeam, adhering to U.S. National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards.

  • Plan Review & Quality Control: Review electrical plans and specifications during the design and pre-construction phases to ensure accuracy, quality, and constructability, providing suggestions for design improvements.

  • Technical Support: Offer technical support and guidance to project managers, field engineers, and construction teams throughout the project's lifecycle.

  • Load Calculations & System Layouts: Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and design layouts for power distribution, lighting, and control systems.

  • Code Compliance: Ensure electrical designs comply with the U.S. National Electrical Code (NEC) and other local codes applicable to the U.S. market.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and submit technical documentation, reports, and drawings for project approval, submission, and review in coordination with U.S. teams.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors, adapting designs to align with project requirements.

What You'll Need

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a Colombian university, with equivalent professional standing to U.S. engineering degrees.

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in electrical design or engineering, preferably with exposure to U.S. or international construction projects.

  • Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar electrical design software.

  • Knowledge of Codes: Familiarity with NEC (U.S. National Electrical Code) is essential. Experience with international codes is a plus.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish, capable of coordinating with U.S.-based teams.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address design and construction challenges.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy in designs and documentation.

  • Remote Work: Must have a reliable internet connection and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

It's A Plus

  • Experience with BIM modeling and clash detection software.

  • Familiarity with project management processes in a construction setting.

  • Colombian equivalent of Professional Engineer (PE) certification or Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
