This role is a part of Verizon Cyber Defense’s Insider Threat Operations (ITO) team under the Chief Information Security Office (CISO). The mission of the ITO team is to protect Verizon by preventing, detecting, and investigating all insider threats by malicious or negligent employees, contractors and vendors with minimal disruption to the line of business.

What you'll be doing...
  • Leading insider threat FAA's National Airspace System (NAS) network related incident investigation and response.

  • Overseeing day-to-day operations for all FAA ITO functions.

  • Promoting an environment of collaboration and individual accountability when it comes to problem-solving, decision-making, and process improvement. 

  • Functioning as a subject matter expert (SME) leading insider threat program working groups, attending compliance and regulatory meetings, and being the source of truth for the insider threat program. 

  • Reviewing and approving all ITP/ITO documentation, to include the global insider threat use cases surrounding data exfiltration, internal fraud, privilege escalations, as well as IT sabotage for desktops, laptops, servers, mobile, virtual and multi-cloud environments.

  • Evaluating insider threat cyber risk assessments and ensure mitigating controls are put into place to support the growth and maturity of ITO’s enhanced monitoring capabilities of critical data and high valued assets. 

  • Assessing the continuous enterprise-wide insider threat monitoring and ensure investigations and remediation meets ITP standards. 

  • Creating and implementing technical and administrative strategies designed to scale across the Verizon enterprise to ensure growth and maturity by identifying and implementing continuous process improvements for the ITO team to prevent, detect, and respond to insider threats.

  • Ensuring overall effectiveness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction is met for ITP.

  • Reviewing outcomes of on-demand compliance audits to validate repeatable and sustainable processes are established, followed or adjusted when necessary.  

  • Executing long-term and short-term cyber risk and compliance strategies and monitoring their implementation. 

  • Developing strategies and setting clear goals and team expectations to successfully achieve organizational objectives.  

  • Performing overall employee performance reviews and assessments.

  • Developing and participating in an effective insider threat response function to detect, prevent, and investigate insider threats.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Four years of experience in Security Operations, Insider Threat Analysis and/or Mitigation Program Design.

  • Two years of experience running Insider Threat Program working groups and conducting enterprise Insider Threat Risk Assessments. 

  • Two years of experience managing employees.

  • Must be able to undergo and pass an FAA government background investigation (Public Trust) as a condition of employment. 

Even better if you have:

  • Experience writing high and low level designs for insider threat use cases and security-related processes, tools and systems. 

  • Experience with implementation of cybersecurity, network defense, and investigative frameworks (such as NIST 800-53, NIST CSF, ISO 27000 series, MITRE ATT&CK, Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill Chain, etc.) into network defense processes.

  • Experience in a Cyber Defense related position supporting a FISMA IT system.

  • Knowledge of SOC or similar environment methodology, including threat monitoring, intrusion detection, analysis, threat determination, incident handling, and remediation tracking.

  • Knowledge of the cyber threat landscape including types of adversaries, campaigns, and the motivations that drive them.

  • Experience working with analysis techniques, identifying indicators of compromise, threat hunting, and identification of intrusions and potential incidents.

  • Experience integrating subject profiling and criminal examination best practices into investigative procedures to supplement technical evidence.

  • Experience for designing and implementing control, assurance and data quality metrics.

  • Understanding of system development life cycle (waterfall & agile) experience.

  • Certifications like: CERT's ITPM, Network+, Security+, CISSP, CISM, CFE, CISA, CPCI, CCP, and/or Six Sigma Greenbelt or Lean certification.

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Cybersecurity Public Policy, or Cybersecurity Engineering.

  • One or more of the following professional certifications preferred: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls (CRISC), or Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance (CGRC).
