Partnerships

The Partnerships team works to scale Pew’s impact in the world by building an engaged community of partners and mobilizing resources to advance our vital work. The Community Unit within Partnerships drives Pew’s presence as a thought leader and collaborative partner in the philanthropic community.

Position Overview

The senior associate, Community, is a critical execution role responsible for external engagement for the Pew Partnerships team. Duties include: leading Partnerships’ external events development, execution, and follow-up; helping build Community’s audience by maintaining Community’s contacts database and tracking Partnerships’ memberships in philanthropic networks; and assisting with internal engagement opportunities as needed. Reporting to the Community team’s manager, the senior associate will collaborate with colleagues in Partnerships and across Pew and engage with high profile external donors and stakeholders.

The senior associate position is based in Washington, DC, and will participate in Pew’s core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the strategy for external and internal engagement, helping ensure that all activities further the institution’s resource mobilization strategy and connect colleagues to Partnerships’ work.

  • Support the planning and execution of external events, including dinners (10-100 guests), receptions, program convenings, networking activities, webinars, strategic meetings, and donor trips, throughout the U.S. and internationally. Support early planning for a major summit celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

  • Project manage event timelines and keep colleagues on track for successful event completion and follow-up with guests; conduct regularly scheduled meetings with Partnerships and internal program staff to seamlessly coordinate program content with event logistics.

  • Collaborate with the internal Conference and Events Services (CES) team to arrange and ensure that all logistical details are run effectively, and serve as the main point-of-contact with CES staff, venue staff, and vendors. Manage event budgets and negotiate contracts with vendors; coordinate with legal team and CES to ensure contracts meet Pew’s requirements and standards.

  • Write and manage written materials including print and electronic invitations, event talking points, and other event collateral; work with Pew’s Communications teams to design and print materials. Coordinate, compile, and draft event-related correspondence and briefing memos for Pew’s leadership, including requests for collateral, background, biographies, media clips, and other materials.

  • Manage guest lists, including soliciting input from colleagues and ensuring that all information is accurate and complete.

  • Design and manage event-related information in Pew’s Salesforce constituent relationship management (CRM) system to track engagement with prospects and donors. Maintain Community’s contacts database within Salesforce and identify ways to grow Community’s audience for events.

  • Collect and analyze data on event attendance, audience feedback, and impact to identify successful strategies and areas for improvement. Share these insights with Partnerships and stakeholders.

  • Support Partnerships’ memberships in philanthropic networks by coordinating Pew’s participation in philanthropic networking events, tracking engagements in Salesforce, and maintaining a list of active memberships.

  • Bring and continually evolve best practice in event management and audience development to widen Pew’s donor prospect pipeline and philanthropic networks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, required.

  • Generally, four years of professional experience with a focus on event management and execution and a track record of running small and medium-sized events preferred.

  • Past vendor selection and/or identification experience is welcome but not required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate an organization’s mission and interests; experience managing important constituents and colleagues with tact and diplomacy, and managing confidential information with discretion.

  • A commitment to working in a team environment with shared goals; possess sound judgment, integrity, willingness to try innovative approaches, and enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and objectives of the institution.

  • Strong collegial interpersonal skills with experience communicating diplomatically and effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.

  • Collaborative thinker and able to effectively respond to complex situations involving multiple and sometimes competing organizational constituencies.

  • Keen attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties; able to focus on detail without losing sight of the goal, including monitoring and double-checking work and information for consistency, accuracy, and quality.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Candidate will occasionally be asked to work outside of normal business hours for events as well as to accommodate international team members.

Work Authorization:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without the need of a visa sponsorship.

Salary Range

$72,300 USD - $80,800 USD

The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on Pew’s commitment to provide equitable and market-competitive pay. The actual salary offered will take into consideration many factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills and experience, internal pay equity, and business need.
