POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, with a dotted line to the Territory Executive, the Associate Director, Major Gifts serves as the strategic territorial leader to identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors and prospects. The Associate Director, Major Gifts will be working closely with development partners organization wide to ensure revenue goals are achieved. The Associate Director, Major Gifts will personally carry a portfolio of 125-150 prospects each and actively manage relationships with those prospects, raising a minimum of $1,000,000 annually. Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, but with a dotted line to the Territory Executive, the Associate Director, Major Gifts is responsible for establishing effective partnerships and collaborations with foundations, supporters, volunteers, and community leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, strategically cultivate, steward, and solicit a portfolio of individuals and family foundations supporting programs and initiatives in support of The ALS Association mission, with an emphasis on six and seven-figure donor and prospects.
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, create a comprehensive cultivation and solicitation strategy for each donor in their portfolio and directly solicit major gifts in support of The ALS Association.
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, qualify donors and identify prospects who are capable of making significant gifts to the Association.
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, conduct donor visits, phone calls, and meaningful stewardship outreach as defined by specific territory goals.
  • Work closely with territory leadership and staff to secure appropriate project information, including budgets and program content, to create proposals and execute solicitations.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of mission related information to share with donors either in meetings or via electronic or other communication.
  • Tracks all plans, interactions, and solicitations in Salesforce.
  • Provides regular reporting on pipeline of solicitations and progress to goal that accurately reflect caseload activity and performance.
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, develop written proposals and business cases for major donor approaches around specific Association program areas, especially in research, care services and public policy.
  • In conjunction with territory leadership and staff, monitor and implement activities, assess effectiveness, adjust strategies, and provide leadership to ensure achievement of performance goals.
  • Demonstrate behaviors in concert with The Association’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Adhere to strict confidentiality policies in handling donor information. Build and maintain positive working relationships and communications with all Association constituencies.
  • A comfort level with technology that includes a desktop or laptop computer, fundraising database, and high volume of email messages with a timely response is important.
  • Convey an image that reflects favorably on The ALS Association at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in development with a minimum of one year of experience in soliciting major gifts, with a demonstrated track record of developing donor relationships.
  • Proven track record of closing major gifts and meeting fundraising goals.
  • Ability to quickly develop rapport and strong relationships with donors.
  • Operate effectively both as a highly self-motivated and independent contributor, as well as, in a team environment and a member of a cross functional team.
  • Knowledge of development principles, fund raising techniques and ethics, including moves management donor strategies.
  • Possess integrity, maturity and ethical awareness; ability to handle sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and managerial skills.  Strong written, verbal, telephone, and interpersonal skills.  Outstanding listening skills are a must.  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel extensively including but not limited to donor visits in your region, Home Office locations and attendance at Association events as required or requested. 
  • Computer skills required: Accounting Software; Contract Management Systems; Development Software (Salesforce a plus); Human Resource Systems; Inventory Software; Microsoft Office; Payroll Systems; Project Management Software, Video.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is $74,160- $83,430 annually.

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
