RTX has an opening for a Principal Cloud Systems Engineer/Architect (AWS) (Manager, Business Systems and Transformation).  Remote Opportunity.

This position is suited for someone who favors automated workflows over repetitive manual tasks and trusts mature automated systems for accurate deployment.

Please apply if you are a: highly skilled Principal Cloud Systems Engineer for Enhanced Ontology Hub Team to design, deploy, maintain and support cloud hosted, cutting-edge knowledge graph platform to manage and integrate complex data systems using semantic technologies and should have extensive experience working with COTS and internally developed applications.

Responsible for developing agile, DevOps-oriented, cloud-centric and requirements driven architectures and environments following best practices; these environments should be autonomously orchestrated to ensure high availability, consistency, compliance and operational rigor. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Deploy core infrastructure resources required to enable the Ontology Hub, i.e. compute resources, storage resources, networking resources.
  • Co-design and build an effective architecture and environment in collaboration with the members of the PLDT and MBDT PCC teams (Tools & Data Integration, Solution Architecture).
  • Enable delivery of virtual infrastructure deployment automation and Infrastructure as Code assets (e.g. terraform / cloud formation templates) and related technologies to enable deployments into multiple environments.
  • Support the Digital Thread (DT) Architect and Delivery Lead to engage technology providers and architect cloud-based application system designs (COTS/FOSS) compliant with applicable standards (NIST/DFARS).
  • Design, implement and manage Single Sign-On solutions to streamline user authentication.
  • Setup, manage and maintain encryption at rest for databases, file systems and storage.
  • Implement encryption for data in transit by securing web traffic with TLS/SSSL.
  • Design and implement comprehensive backup strategies for servers and applications in cloud environment.
  • Perform data restores to recover lost or corrupted data ensuring data integrity.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring system for infrastructure, applications and network components ensuring all critical systems generate alerts when thresholds are breached.
  • Design, implement and monitor log collection systems to identify system performance bottlenecks, detect security threats and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Monitor for security threats and vulnerabilities using SIEM tools and take necessary action to remediate.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to troubleshoot and resolve complex application issues.
  • Drive the internal approvals (Legal, ITC, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure) for the infrastructure, applications and services to be deployed and support closure of the remediation actions.
  • Deploy commercial software applications, Open-Source Software, related IT components and code developed by the PLDT teams into AWS environment in support of the Ontology Hub.
  • Drive the use of “best practice” serverless technologies, methods, and tools for engineers within the PLDT teams.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of DevSecOps tools and methodologies.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for infrastructure, configurations and system processes.
  • Provide general IT support to the PLDT team / Ontology Hub users (Identity Management, Network Access Requests, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in a hands-on environment working in GovCloud environments, particularly AWS GovCloud and Azure Government and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of related work experience and schooling in lieu of degree: Advanced degree and 7+ years’ related work experience.
  • 7+ years’ strong knowledge of GovCloud compliance frameworks, including FedRAMP, ITAR, DFARS, NIST and other security or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with systems configuration management, orchestration, and infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform and Ansible.

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Experience working in highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, or government sectors.
  • Experience with Global Trade, Cybersecurity other rules for auditable controls, compliance and logging
  • Experience designing and operating scalable, secure, high performing systems and platforms in highly hardened / secure environments
  • Experience designing and implementing event driven microservice architectures
  • Hands-on expertise in DevOps or CI/CD tools, like Jenkins, GitHub, Jira, Make, Nexus, Artifactory, Docker, AWS ECR, Ansible, ELK Stack / AWS OpenSearch, Splunk, Datadog,  etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to write programs using a high-level programming language such Java, Ruby, Python and scripting in shell, Perl, PHP, etc.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Technologies, including the use of Infrastructure related AWS Services and related technologies such as VPC, IAM, EC2, EBS, S3, ECR, ECS, Lambda, AWS Backup, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, Secrets Manager, Certificate Manager, CloudTrial, Route53, Config, EventBridge, KMS, SNS
  • Experience with integration and use of AWS services with custom developed applications, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and open-source software (OSS)
  • Experience in cloud cost optimization with a focus on managing and reducing costs while maintaining application availability and performance.
  • Hands-on experience in Linux administration, configuration, and software installation
  • Prior experience in application management and release methodologies
  • Experience with logging infrastructure and using tools such as Splunk and ELK/AWS OpenSearch.
  • Experience of source code management e.g. Git, GitHub.
  • Excellent scripting skills in bash, Perl, Python and/or Ruby.
  • Experience with Testing Tools and methodologies.
  • Experience in Kafka, MongoDB, Cassandra and Oracle is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in creating diagrams and visual representations using tools such as Draw.IO and / or Microsoft Visio including flowcharts, infrastructure / network diagrams and process maps.
  • Experience working with Confluence to manage documentation.
  • Passion for driving automation into how software development and delivery is done.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) knowledge and experience.

Desired Certifications:

  • Agile software development methodology certification (e.g. SAFe Practitioner or higher)
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner
  • AWS Solutions Architect – Associate / Pro

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical field or equivalent combination of related work experience and schooling in lieu of degree.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
