Job summary – What to expect:
As a Shift Leader you will be responsible for managing team leaders and their respective teams, overseeing daily operations, and driving overall team performance to meet departmental goals. This role involves advanced planning, people management, results orientation, creating a broader impact, and maintaining a balanced perspective, with a focus on providing leadership and support to Team Leaders within their area of responsibility.
This position takes the responsibility for the 2 HV100 lines which consist of MyDay spheres of which we manufacture approximately 100M lenses per year and MyDay toric eAxis which will come into production in May 2025 at a rate of 75M per year. You will also be responsible for Avaira Vitality Toric lenses at 18.3M per year. Across these 3 lines, you will lead and manage 2 Team Leaders, 9 Technical Operators, 20 Operators and 3 Autoclave Operators.
Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
- Plan, organise and control production activity to ensure that quality, volume and cost outcomes are achieved.
- Recruit, lead and motivate Team Leaders to effectively manage their teams, ensuring that enough people with the required knowledge, attitude and skills exist to meet production demands.
- Accountable for employee engagement and development across the shift
- Create and maintain a safe, highly engaged and efficient working environment through clear communication, recognition, feedback and team development promoting continuous improvement activities and employee wellness.
- Compile and analyse relevant data regarding the achievement of KPIs to identify underlying trends, implement opportunities to enhance performance and optimise the use of resources.
- Monitor and review working practice taking corrective action and providing guidance to team leaders and others as required ensuring that regulatory, quality and health and safety standards are met.
- Facilitate regular communication within Business Unit and with support functions.
- Appraise, develop and coach team members in new ways of working so that they become self-managing whenever possible in meeting changing customer/business unit requirements.
- Promote Continuous Improvement activities to develop better ways of working.
- Act as the focal point for support services such as IT, Technical Support, Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure that required standards of service are provided.
- Responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety, and compliance within shift team
- Ensure a detailed handover is created and available with oncoming shift.
Work Environment:
- The post works within a demanding, yet informal, English-speaking environment where there is an ongoing expectation and responsibility to maximize productivity time and productivity levels to ensure targets are met.
- The immediate work area is open plan with lots of moving equipment with team members in close proximity, however as a Shift Leader there will be prolonged period of sitting in front of a computer with frequent walking in between buildings.
- Controlled manufacturing environment with a clean room ASEC production environment e.g. all hair covered, no make-up and no heels.
- The work, carried out over a 12-hour shifts is physically demanding, and a significant proportion of the shift will require the member of staff to stand and be active.
- Some of our work areas have a high level of noise. Where this is above prescribed limits, PPE is supplied and must be worn at all times.
- Will be required to undergo annual surveillance health checks.

About you:
We are looking for someone who has proven leadership and management experience that has been obtained within a Manufacturing Operational environment.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum of 2 years leadership experience as a Team Leader or previous leadership role within CooperVision.
- Secondary level education preferred.
- High degree of Verbal, Numerical and Mechanical reasoning ability.
- A high standard of written and spoken English.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and successful application of continuous improvement activities.
- Strong communication skills and good organisational skills for support and effective interaction across departments
- Computer literate with good IT skills
- Leadership, Planning and Organisation, Communication, Results and Data Driven, Problem Solving, Motivating Others, Team Orientation, Innovation, Quality/Continuous Improvement and Change Orientation.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the job processes and procedures.
- Able to comprehend and recognise the diverse strengths and abilities within a group setting and work together to achieve the desired result.
- Able to consider the potential business impact of specific actions and decisions for the company, and consistently directs efforts to preserve and enhance its business position.
