This opportunity is in the Actuarial Services Department.

Our Actuarial department is a dynamic group of professionals focusing on pricing, reserving, and data analysis for all written lines of business. The actuarial team creates, maintains and updates pricing models for underwriters to utilize; creates reserving estimates for all lines of business; and assists with financial- and claims-related items, helping the organization to succeed using our insurance expertise. We aim to improve practices and efficiency across the organization, while using data to the fullest potential to gain insights that help our underwriting and management teams meet our goals.

Role Description:

In the role of IFRS Actuary, you will be part of a team responsible for providing actuarial guidance on methodology as well as processes and data to support implementation of IFRS 17 for the enterprise. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with your colleagues in Actuarial Services, IT and Finance, and even have the opportunity to collaborate and interact with our parent company Tokio Marine. By playing a key role in Safety National’s pursuit of IFRS 17 (International Financial Reporting Standards), you will make a significant impact on our ability to embrace our Core Values, most notably, Stability.

Your day-to-day responsibilities as an IFRS Actuary will include applying your knowledge of insurance company operations and actuarial methodologies to support Safety National’s efforts to implement and maintain IFRS 17. To do so, you will develop documentation of actuarial methods and data for financial reporting, as well as provide support for testing and QA of IFRS 17 programming, tools, and systems.

The ideal candidate is an Associate of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS), with five or more years of insurance industry experience. This role requires strong professional communication skills and knowledge of insurance databases (and especially Safety National’s databases.) Finally, SQL and advanced Microsoft Excel skills is required, while experience in other programming languages such as Python and PowerBI is desired.

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have been in your current role for 12 months or longer at the time of application
  • Must not be on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) or been subject to any other disciplinary measures within the past 12 months
  • 3 or more years of experience in the actuarial field or related role
  • Associate of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS)
  • Advanced Excel capabilities
  • Prior professional experience with SQL
  • Strong professional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of experience in the actuarial field or related role
  • Advanced SQL skills including editing and/or writing custom queries
  • Programming experience in Python, SAS, R or other languages
  • Basic knowledge of IFRS 17 (International Financial Reporting Standards)

In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target salary range for this position is $127,000 to $204,000. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
