A Day in the Life

Join Medtronic as a Senior Program Manager in our Advanced Surgical Technology (AST) group – OU Operations. In this pivotal role, you'll lead a dynamic team, collaborating across departments like Contract Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure the overall Operational Health of the Gynecology Business portfolio.

Acts as the overall Value Stream leader for the GYN portfolio within AST - OU Operations.

Has overall responsibility for ensuring the necessary components are in place to support the business needs.

Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, develop and manage multiple projects for the GYN business. This includes close coordination with the following cross-functional partners:

  • Supplier Quality - Closely coordinates with the Supplier Quality Team to ensure Supplier Change Requests are being completed in a timely fashion with a focus on avoiding any manufacturing downtime.
  • Contract Manufacturing - Connects regularly with the Contract Manufacturing organization to ensure supply commitments are being met and capacity is in place to support the business needs.
  • Global Marketing – Works with marketing to evaluate ongoing commercial requirements and puts plans in place to mitigate issues as they arise.
  • GOSC Demand & Supply Planning - Partners with the GOSC team to identify and monitor performance metrics.


Analyze and present trends and recommendations to peers, commercial teams and senior management.

Assess the manufacturing strategy for the portfolio and will lead improvement initiatives in partnership with the GOSC organization.

Resolve issues and ensures task completion by establishing priorities and reaching compromise with team members and functional managers.

Lead extended project team members including vendors as necessary to complete an assigned major program or project.

Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to ask critical questions without being the subject matter expert.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, communicates with stakeholders, obtains stakeholder engagement and alignment to ensure the end products or processes will solve the business problems.

Monitors progress toward pre-established objectives, assesses risk and implements strategies to ensure successful delivery of the efforts that align with the Operating Unit goals.

Travel and Location: This position can sit at our Boston, MA or North Haven, CT location or remote.

Not required to be fully located at the North Haven or Boston site, however, would require 10% - 15% travel allocation for key events and onsite time with teams (once quarterly or more).

Team is primarily based on the East Coast and must conform with Eastern Time Zone working hours.

Role will report to the OU Operations Program Director for Stapling & GYN and support initiatives and / or programs primarily focused on the GYN business.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT CAREER STREAM: Program Managers and Directors focus on tactical, operational activities for a major program with broad or ongoing impact. Levels within the program management career stream typically accomplish program objectives through matrixed employee teams and / or vendors who are not direct reports but for which the incumbent has direct accountability to lead. The majority of time is spent overseeing execution of programs, managing program performance, communicating project and operational developments, planning, prioritizing and / or directing the responsibilities of program team members. Goal achievement is accomplished through successful execution of programs & Operational Health metrics.

Communication and Influence: Communicates and leads meetings with internal and external customers and vendors, conducts briefings to higher level management team.

Influences across functions and businesses while balancing divergent objectives to gain cooperation of other parties on program objectives and execution plans.

Leadership and Talent Management: Leads, via the project team experienced professionals and/or vendors who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.

Establishes daily tasks necessary for successful program execution.

Influences hire or fire decisions and people management.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of project management and/or Operations / Supply Chain experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of project management or Operations / Supply Chain experience


Nice to Have

  • 10+ years of experience in Project Management
  • MBA and PMP / CSM Certification
  • High degree of competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Proven track record of successfully managing within a matrixed organization
  • Experience managing Program/Project Managers with a history of increasing engagement
  • Knowledge in project management in the medical device industry
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills; must possess excellent relationship building skills with direct reports, peers, and senior leaders
  • Must be able to lead cross-functional discussions; driving towards alignment, decisions, resolutions when necessary
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once while understanding cultural differences between various regions of the world
  • Experience working under regulations of the FDA, notified bodies, and other regulatory agencies for successful commercial launches

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$143,200.00 - $214,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
