Position Description
We are hiring an Operations Accountant who will work with our Finance team to support Mechanism Ventures as well as Portfolio and Profit Companies. You will play a key role in on-going process improvement in order to establish best practices among the Finance team.
Reporting to the Controller you will be responsible for resolution of many issues and concerns that arise each day. While these are often very quickly researched and resolved there are some that will require a deeper dive, failure analysis and a re-engineering of processes. You will also be asked to review the work of others, support tax compliance, and inter-company transactions.
Each Finance team member promotes rapid, efficient communication among a variety of stakeholders in order to successfully operate in a dynamic and fast-paced group of companies. This includes a network of people, both within the US and internationally located, employees, contractors, CEO's, Practice Area Leaders, vendors, etc.

Key Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for Mechanism Ventures' books, reporting, and treasury
- Support compliance regarding payroll, sales, income and other taxes for a variety of entities
- Working independently or in a group become a major contributor to the review of current process with the goal of developing a best-in-class body of Accounting practices
- Maintain oversight of inter-company transactions and payments
- Achieve and maintain and understanding of the Companies' business models and accounting processes
- Assume responsibility for all Mechanism cash outflows to include payroll, contractor and vendor payments
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
- Four years experience at Senior Accountant level or above
- Ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate them to colleagues in a variety of industries, a variety of different professional backgrounds, and levels of knowledge
- Thrives in an environment of rapid execution and ever-changing priorities
- You are entrepreneurial and relentlessly resourceful.
- You are able to rapidly context switch as you work across vastly different industries
- Derives satisfaction from contributing to constant improvement and seeing the results through greater efficiencies, growth, and profitability
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Public accounting experience is a plus.
- CPA license or Candidate is preferred.

CompensationOur compensation packages are designed to make this your dream job for the short and long term. Each compensation package is tailored to suit your priorities and can include base, equity (in all of our active portfolio companies and any that are launched during your tenure at Mechanism), and performance bonus based on the success of our portfolio companies. For a well-qualified candidate the base salary range is $125,000 to $138,000 annually.
