Location: Remote

Start Date: January 2025

About Us

NORC at the University of Chicago is on a mission to drive social change through rigorous, inclusive research. We’re looking for passionate graduate students and early career researchers from all backgrounds to join our NORC Equity Scholars Program . This unique opportunity offers a platform to design and conduct impactful research while receiving expert mentorship and building a network of professionals dedicated to equity and inclusion.

What You'll Do

As a NORC Equity Scholar, you will embark on an eight-month journey to conduct secondary analysis on one of our 12 diverse datasets or conduct a survey using our AmeriSpeak® Amplify AAPI Panel. You will have the chance to explore issues of race, ethnicity, disability, gender, and more, aiming to enhance our understanding and influence interventions that tackle disparities and inequality.

Note: Internal applicants are only eligible to propose using one of the 12 datasets. We are not able to offer the Amplify AAPI option to applicants who are NORC staff.

Program Highlights

  • Mentorship & Networking: Gain guidance from experienced researchers and connect with a network of professionals committed to social justice.
  • Impactful Research: Contribute to research that addresses critical issues in equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Financial Support: For the 2025 program, there are two options. The first option allows you to design and conduct a secondary analysis using data from one of 12 available datasets, with a compensation of $7,000 for your participation. The second option offers the opportunity to add up to 23 questions to the Amplify AAPI Panel Monthly Poll between January and April 2025, free of charge.

Program Goals

  • Describe how structures and other societal contexts frame the experiences of historically marginalized and/or minoritized people and groups.
  • Explore strengths within a diversity of communities to promote success and well-being.
  • Identify within-group variation key to enhancing programs and policies within a diversity of communities.
  • Examine how structural racism negatively impacts society, communities, and individuals.
