About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and results driven Data Scientist to lead our data science function by applying their expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modelling to drive customer-focused initiatives such as customer engagement, matching and lifetime value maximisation. You will own the end to end lifecycle of the models you work on. You will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a passion for translating complex data insights into actionable recommendations.
We’re looking for candidates who are excited to identify and solve problems pragmatically and independently, as well working with product managers and the wider business.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the other members of the data guild to ensure alignment on the priorities and to drive shared initiatives
Data Analysis: Collect, process, and analyse large datasets from multiple sources to extract actionable insights that inform our customer value optimisation and segmentation strategies.
Predictive Modelling: Develop and implement machine learning and statistical models to predict customer behaviour, preferences, and lifetime value, and identify opportunities to apply those models for targeted interventions and customer segmentation.
Machine Learning Engineering: Experience in building, testing and optimising machine learning models and bringing them into production
Performance Tracking: Design and implement performance tracking metrics and dashboards to monitor the success of business initiatives and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Experimentation: Design, implement, and analyse A/B tests and other experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of novel product features and business tactics.
Communication: Effectively communicate complex data findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, driving data-informed decision-making across the organisation.
Education: Ensure that the business can understand the value of data science in tackling customer and business challenges, and proactively collaborate in cross-functional initiatives.
Research: Be Elder’s eyes and ears and keep upto date with all the latest developments in the AI and Data space and look to share interesting technologies and approaches that Elder could leverage
Partner with the CPTO to define a AI strategy
Requirements:
Preferably a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A Master's or PhD is a plus.
Minimum 3 years experience delivering business value via data analysis and predictive modelling, preferably in a B2C startup/ scaleup setting. Bonus points if you’ve worked in a marketplace technology business.
Proficiency in Python, in particular with data science libraries and tools (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn).
Good understanding of relational databases and ability to extract data from them (in any SQL flavour).
Strong knowledge of machine learning algorithms and statistical modelling techniques.
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and ability to communicate technical concepts simply to different audiences.
Experience in owning machine learning projects end to end, from design to deployment.
Being a self-starter, with a can-do attitude and a bias to action.
Comfortable working alone when required however also a strong team player with a proactive, results-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
