About this role

Introduction

Fixed Income at BlackRock is a foundational asset class for the firm and one in which BlackRock maintains global market leadership via the provision of high-quality fixed income strategies to clients around the world. These strategies include global and domestic: cash; index; index-enhanced; active FI and credit strategies – which can be offered in Fund or ETF format, via mandates or as part of broader custom multi-asset solutions.

The Senior Fixed Income Investment Strategist will be responsible for the strategic planning and commercial outcomes of BlackRock’s fixed income footprint in Australia. The successful candidate will work closely with our Fixed Income Portfolio Managers; Fixed Income Product Strategist regionally and globally; and the Australian Investment Strategy team in developing and articulating priorities and resourcing.

Investment Strategists are centrally involved in the firm’s thought leadership, the development of client solutions, marketing to institutional and wealth prosects, and supporting consultants and end-clients. They are charged with representing the full suite of our investment strategies to internal and external clients and are expected to represent the firm at conferences and in the media.

Critical to the success of the Fixed Income Team is the maintenance of strong relationships with BlackRock’s Global Product Strategy, and the Client Business function - which is responsible for managing and developing BlackRock’s client relationships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a sound understanding of BlackRock’s global and domestic fixed income capabilities and demonstrate the ability to innovate to meet client’s needs.

  • Build a business plan around the commercialisation of these capabilities, in collaboration with FI portfolio managers, broader FI product strategy, and client businesses.

  • Create a leading engagement program for the platform – including market and client engagement to ensure BlackRock’s FI capabilities are consistently messaged through appropriate materials.

  • Be a technical subject matter and macro market expert – representing the full suite of BlackRock/iShares fixed income and credit solutions.

  • Work with stakeholders in helping to further build out the investment strategy function, which may include additional resources and leveraging our various investment hubs.

  • Thought leadership / white paper creation: working closely with portfolio managers and distribution partners to support the production of thought pieces for clients.

  • Have a thorough understanding of competitive universe and proactively communicate and plan accordingly.

Knowledge/Experience Required

  • A demonstrated interest and knowledge in global markets and geopolitics.

  • Commercial acumen: the ability to identify market opportunities and develop growth strategies.

  • Extensive experience in as a Fixed income practitioner - preferably in a buy-side role but could potentially be from the sell-side or an index data provider.

  • Strong technical skills – familiarity with fixed income derivatives and fixed income indices.

  • Ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with internal and external clients, consultants, and ratings houses.

  • Presence, experience, confidence, and credibility to present effectively.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to clearly articulate sophisticated concepts, ideas, and processes.

  • Strong team player, collaborative and cooperative approach to tasks.

  • Highly organised, ability to hit deadlines and project management skills.

  • Ambitious work ethic and professional disposition.

  • Able to work independently.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Knowledge and familiarity of Australia’s funds landscape preferred.

  • Professional proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • CFA qualification / candidacy an advantage.

  • Extensive experience in the Australian fixed income & credit markets preferred.
