Job description

MSI is building a technology-first and data-driven Claims organization focused on enhancing customer experience and eliminating traditional claims inefficiencies. MSI underwrites complex insurance products that require a hands-on approach when appropriate. The Specialty Liability Claims Manger will manage claims, internal colleagues, and claim vendors while assisting the Director of Liability Claims in building and improving overall Claims management. This position requires the ability to develop claims capabilities to serve a wide variety of specialty liability insurance products such as various lines of management liability and Cyber Liability. As MSI continues to create and distribute insurance products that take advantage of market opportunities, the Specialty Liability Claims Manager must plan to support those products accordingly. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of specialty liability claims handling best practices, the ability to effectively leverage technology, strong leadership, and precise execution.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze claims information, applying your knowledge of EPL and D&O coverages to develop effective claim strategies.
  • Partner with TPA’s to evaluate claims strategies for appropriate and prompt claims resolution.
  • Conduct and participate in meetings to discuss claims strategies and coverage issues.
  • Compile and analyze claims data to identify trends and improve claims handling.
  • Maintain accurate and complete claims files in accordance with best practices.
  • Oversee specialty liability first notice of loss reporting, claims assignments to vendors, and inquiries from policyholders/claimants.
  • Monitor claim files to ensure adherence to policy/court/regulatory requirements, deadlines, responses, etc.
  • Review claim files and activity to ensure claims are paid at appropriate levels of indemnity.
  • Audit claim level billing and expense payments to ensure firms managing MSI claims are billing accurately.
  • Provide direct feedback back to firms managing MSI claims on things like the quality of their claims handling, file documentation, regulatory compliance, billing practices, etc.
  • Facilitate large loss review sessions with MSI Underwriting and Product teams.
  • Coordinate with MSI Underwriting and Product teams to support regular communications on claims trends and offer guidance on underwriting and coverage issues arising out of claims.
  • Maintain an intimate knowledge of the open claims associated with MSI Specialty Liability policies.
  • Collaborate with the MSI Data & Analytics team to obtain the data necessary for measuring claims performance.
  • Assist in setting up efficient workflows to streamline the claims process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required:
  • Solid understanding of EPL and D&O insurance coverages and claims processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze/present data.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities to identify and address operational challenges.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset with the ability to work well with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a high level of professionalism.

Education And Experience Requirements:
  • Adjusters License required
  • JD and/or professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) are highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Management Liability, Cyber Liability, and/or Specialty Liability claims handling.
Technical, Computer, And System-Specific Skills Required:
  • Some level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to learn any other appropriate program or software system used by the firm as necessary
