Company Description

A & A Customs Brokers is seeking an experienced and highly detail-oriented Tariff and Permit Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with customs regulations, conducting post-entry reviews, and providing expert guidance on HS classifications. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tariff classification rules, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 

Experience with Global Affairs Permits, particularly in the softwood lumber sector, is highly desirable. 

Job Description

Tariff Classification and Post-Entry Review:

  • Apply knowledge of General Interpretive Rules, Explanatory Notes, and D-Memos to classify goods.
  • Conduct post-entry reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with customs regulations and identify discrepancies or issues.
  • Provide expert guidance on HS classification for a variety of goods.

Global Affairs Permits:

  • Manage and support the acquisition and maintenance of Global Affairs Permits, with a focus on the lumber industry.
  • Ensure all permit-related activities comply with Canadian regulations and Global Affairs requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for permit-related queries.

Team Support and Research:

  • Collaborate with other team members to provide research and guidance on complex tariff and customs compliance issues.
  • Assist in solving any compliance or classification-related challenges for the team.

Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years in the customs brokerage or trade compliance industry. Experience with Global Affairs Permits, especially in lumber, is a plus.
  • Certifications: CCS designation or CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) is required.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of General Interpretive Rules for Tariff Classification, Explanatory Notes, and D-Memos.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Detail-oriented with high accuracy and strong analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
