What is the role? 

We are currently seeking a highly capable NatCat Operations Team Lead to join our team in the Asia Pacific zone. This role will oversee our NatCat operations with a primary focus on flood-related projects, playing a crucial part in our near-real-time flood analysis efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in quality control and delivery, and the ability to lead and grow a small team. You will collaborate with colleagues across multiple time zones, working within the Asia Pacific time zone. This role is essential in enhancing our operational processes and ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes. The position requires a fundamental understanding of disaster management, advanced proficiency in GIS software, GIS data analysis remote sensing, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in live operations, conducting real-time NatCat analysis and delivery activities. 
  • Perform comprehensive analyses of flood events and other natural catastrophes using remote sensing and GIS technologies.
  • Maintain the accuracy and reliability of data and reports through stringent quality control procedures.
  • Respond swiftly and efficiently to crisis or emergency situations, minimizing disruption to team operations.
  • Supervise and mentor a small team of analysts, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Assist with the hiring processes, onboarding new team members, and supporting their professional development.
  • Set clear priorities, allocate resources, and establish project timelines to ensure timely delivery of tasks.
  • Monitor team performance, track progress, and ensure alignment with established goals.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker, offering direction and clarity when challenges or uncertainties arise.
  • Oversee daily operations related to NatCat products, ensuring timely and effective delivery of products and services. 
  • Identify resource needs and process gaps, and work closely with the Solutions Delivery Manager to implement improvements.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders, outsourcing teams, and occasionally clients, providing clear and concise updates and reports. 
  • Ensure all operations align with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and  other performance metrics

Requirements

What will you need to be successful in this role?

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in a related field, such as Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Geomatics, Geoinformatics or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in remote sensing and GIS.
  • Proven experience in managing operational projects. Within the NatCat domain is a plus.
  • Previous experience in leading a team.
  • Fundamental understanding of disaster analysis and management.
  • Expertise in advanced GIS techniques, GIS data analysis and solid understanding of various remote sensing technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and lead initiatives independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in statistics, database software and programming is a plus.
