Position Title: Director of Community Health Worker Training Program            

Reports To:  President

Employee Status: Full Time, Exempt                                          

Location/Office: NYC (CAI has a hybrid work schedule of working 2 days in the office and 3 days remote)       

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

CAI, a national nonprofit organization that provides training, technical assistance, and other support to health and social services agencies, is seeking a highly motivated professional for the full-time position of Director of Community Health Worker Training Program (CHWTP). Under the direction of the President, this individual is responsible for overseeing the delivery and expansion of CAI’s CHWTP. 

CAI’s CHWTP is a 3-month classroom and on-the-job training program that will train up to 100 new CHWs a year. The CHWTP includes an innovative job coaching component and supports CHW trainees throughout the program and for up to a year post-graduation with the goal of placing graduates in CHW jobs and/or CHW apprentices across Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. 

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Oversee the delivery of CAI’s CHWTP and related training and technical assistance initiatives.
  • Directly supervise CHWTP Managers and provide oversight to all program staff. 
  • Develop, implement, assess, and adjust strategies to ensure that program outcomes are met, related to recruitment, enrollment, completion, learning, employment, advancement, and CHW trainee and employer satisfaction. 
  • Develop strategies for program expansion, including scoping funding opportunities, writing grants, and supporting the development team to secure diverse funding.
  • Implement organizational strategies to enhance and expand workforce development initiatives.
  • Build relationships with key employer partners to understand trends in labor market demand, to develop and adjust program design and curricula based on employer feedback. 
  • Develop opportunities that lead to agreements with employers to provide apprenticeship opportunities to CHW trainees and support their transition to employment. 
  • Collaborate with CAI trainers and curriculum development team to develop, test, and implement training curricula and related materials.
  • Maintain positive and effective collaborative relationships with internal and external partners including funders, regulators, schools, industry associations, and community-based partners. 
  • Manage budgeting, reporting, and compliance with funder mandates for grants and contracts and internal reporting standards.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement processes including collecting course evaluations from trainees and analyzing the results, observing trainers, and conducting post-program surveys or focus groups with CHW trainees and/or employers as needed.  
  • In collaboration with team members and other partners, based on data collected, and with a focus on CHW trainee needs, experiences, and outcomes, identify program areas needing improvement and recommend ways to address these areas, including participation in an annual program review.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • At least five years’ experience in community health, public health, or related sectors. 
  • Experience developing, implementing, and assessing workforce development training, health equity, and education programs. 
  • Excellent project and partnership management skills with a proven track record of managing collaborative projects. 
  • Experience working with federal and private funders. 
  • Student centered, collaborative, and data driven approach to workforce development. 
  • Strong writing skills, including report and grant writing, as well as communications materials that tell the story of program impact.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement and the principles of performance management to improve patient and community outcomes. 
  • Excellent analytic, strategic thinking and presentation skills including interpersonal, as well as oral and written communications skills. 
  • Excellent planning skills, extremely organized, and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated skills in project coordination and project management.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. 
  • Flexibility of schedule and ability to travel (approximately 25% travel-time through NYC required).  

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or Social Work.
  • Experience securing funding and expanding programs.
  • Understanding of best practices for adult learning. 
  • Experience with apprenticeship programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint/Outlook.

While performing the Director of Community Health Worker Training Program’s responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. This position requires the employee to be on-site at a CAI office. The employee is often required to sit and work at a desk for prolonged periods of time and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000. CAI offers a generous benefits package including:
