Job description

About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

We seek a proactive and experienced Scrum Master to join our growing Agile team. The ideal candidate will facilitate the Agile development process for two Scrum teams, drive continuous improvement, and promote Lean principles to optimize flow and reduce waste. Proficiency in Jira for managing sprints and backlogs is essential, along with a strong understanding of Agile and Lean methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Scrum Ceremonies: Lead and manage daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives for two Scrum teams, fostering active participation and engagement from all team members.
  • Backlog Management: Work closely with Product Owners and development teams to ensure the product backlog is well-defined, prioritized, and ready for upcoming sprints. Guide teams in breaking down user stories and tasks into manageable sizes.
  • Promote Agile and Lean Practices: Actively coach and mentor Scrum teams in Agile and Lean practices, ensuring a deep understanding of Scrum principles and Lean concepts such as value stream mapping, flow efficiency, and eliminating waste.
  • Remove Impediments: Identify and address any impediments or blockers that hinder the teams’ progress, working to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Utilize Jira Effectively: Manage and optimize Jira boards, workflows, and reports to track the progress of tasks, sprints, and releases effectively. Customize dashboards to provide visibility and clarity for team members and stakeholders.
  • Encourage Continuous Improvement: Use Lean principles to foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging teams to reflect on their processes and identify areas for optimization frequently.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a bridge between Scrum teams and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and delivery timelines. Ensure alignment between business objectives and team goals.
  • Optimize Flow: Utilize Lean metrics such as cycle time, lead time, and throughput to identify bottlenecks and optimize team flow. Facilitate process improvements to increase team velocity and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience as a Scrum Master working with Agile teams, strongly emphasizing Lean practices.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent certification.
  • Tools Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Jira for Agile project management, including creating custom workflows, dashboards, and reports.
  • Agile and Lean Knowledge: Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and Lean principles. Experience with value stream mapping, cycle time reduction, and other Lean tools.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and facilitation skills, capable of effectively interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on identifying root causes and driving actionable solutions.
  • Leadership and Coaching: A team player with a natural ability to coach and mentor others in Agile and Lean principles and practices.
