Interested in exploring a career path as a Product Owner in an Agile environment? Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines) is currently looking for an undergraduate to intern as a Product Owner for our 2025 Summer Internship Program.  This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 19 through Friday, August 8, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.  The intern will work alongside their mentor and other staff members from the Corporate Services Agile Portfolio Team, learning what it takes to successfully execute on product vision while providing direction to an Agile Development Team and its stakeholders. This is done through project discovery, backlog creation, prioritization and ultimately delivering business value through system changes. We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Assists with creating and refining user stories by incorporating feedback from the business; develops requirements to ensure the team meets business needs
• Participates in Agile Scrum ceremonies including Daily Stand-Ups, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement Sessions
• Assists Product Owners with discovery process on projects
• Assists with managing and prioritizing of product backlog
• Assists with managing and prioritizing of defect and system support work
• Observes how to communicate between Agile/Project Teams and key stakeholders
• Performs additional duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned

Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled at an undergraduate college or university (juniors and seniors may get preference), majoring in MIS, Computer Science, Business or related degree. (May 2025 graduates will not be eligible).   
• Good organization, time management, customer service and skills
