Job description

Company is based in Santa Monica, CA

Position is Remote

Maximus (https://www.maximustribe.com/) is a mission-driven consumer health company that provides men with content, community, and clinical support to optimize them in mind and body. Maximus has raised $15M from top Silicon Valley VCs such as Founders Fund and 8VC as well as leading angel investors/operators from companies like Bulletproof, Tinder, Coinbase, Daily Stoic, & Shopify.

Maximus is looking for a Growth Product Manager to drive growth and retention initiatives. Our ideal candidate is curious, creative, and customer-obsessed. Through quantitative and qualitative research they maintain a deep knowledge of who the customer is. They understand the customers needs and values. They map out what is blocking prospective customers from moving forward and what is required to keep them as a customer once they become one.

Someone who will find success in this position is deeply analytical, data-driven, methodical, and able to prioritize initiatives based on organizational goals. They are detail-oriented and experienced managing growth and retention initiatives in a consumer-focused Growth stage startup. They are goal-oriented and take full ownership of Product Growth.

This product manager will be responsible for maintaining an intuitive, low-friction, and delightful customer journey not just through acquisition but through renewal. This product manager will play a key role in developing the product roadmap.

Please note: Culture is key at Maximus, so we get to know candidates holistically through our questionnaire. You will receive an invite in a separate email upon submitting an application. Please fill it out as honestly and intuitively as possible since it is designed to detect exaggeration, which will cause your application to be automatically rejected. The questionnaire is optional to submit now with your application, but candidates that do so will get strongly prioritized. Note, we do not have access to individual questions’ answers/choices.

Responsibilities:

  • Improve customer conversion and retention: Define and strategically prioritize A/B tests to optimize growth metrics including overall conversion, AOV, cross-sells, upsells, and win-backs. Develop clear problem statements, hypotheses, target populations, success metrics, and criteria for test success. Collaborate with data engineering to ensure robust analytics for tracking test impact. Partner with marketing to drive ideation and alignment on growth priorities. Conduct UAT to verify A/B test requirements prior to production release. Present key learnings to stakeholders to enrich collective understanding of the customer.

  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of the customer: Utilize product experience insight platforms, user interviews, and analytic tools to gain a comprehensive understanding of customer profiles, their challenges, and barriers to purchase and retention. Present findings to cross-functional stakeholders to inform product strategy.

  • Advocate for priorities on Product Roadmap: Employ quantitative and qualitative analytic techniques to estimate and characterize expected feature impact. Prepare concise project summaries (outlining importance and required features) for engineering teams to facilitate scope negotiation and effort estimation during Product Roadmap planning.

  • Product manage diverse consumer app feature releases: Gather requirements from cross-functional leads based on Product Roadmap priorities for consumer-facing app projects, such as referral programs, pricing structure tests, and new payment options. Develop comprehensive launch plans, including soft and hard launch cohort strategies, QA test cases, customer feedback collection methods for rapid iteration, and pre/post launch success metrics. Perform UAT in the app staging environment to ensure features meet requirements.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Product Management: Minimum 3 years of experience as a growth/retention-focused product manager, preferably in a growth-stage eCommerce start-up. Proficient in using tools like Confluence and Notion for documentation, requirements, and knowledge management. Strong ticket writing skills and expertise with project management software like JIRA. Demonstrated ability to think abstractly and develop robust test plans for complex feature/test launches.

  • Metric-Driven Performance: Proven track record of optimizing customer-facing UI and flows through strategic A/B testing and in-depth customer research. Strong analytical mindset with a talent for prioritizing high-impact initiatives and measuring their success. Capable of self-servicing analytics of event-based data using tools like Amplitude.

  • Promotion and Referral Program Management: Experience in managing promotions and referral programs collaboratively with Marketing to reduce acquisition costs while considering downstream impact on key business metrics (LTV, AOV, gross margins). Skilled in vendor assessment and capable of leading buy-versus-build evaluations for such programs.

  • Customer-centric: Experience conducting user interviews to understand motivations behind customer decisions (e.g., cart abandonment, subscription cancellation). Proactive in gathering direct customer feedback through multiple channels – email, phone, surveys. Ideally, involvement in developing buyer personas to drive nuanced understanding of the customer base.

  • Technical Experience: While coding skills are not required, the ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of technical systems, API integrations, and third-party software interfaces. Ability to assist in technical troubleshooting of feature requests and bug reports is essential.

Qualities:

  • High Conscientiousness: Highly effective, organized, dutiful, self-disciplined, and careful. You are the type of person who used multiple colors of highlighters, and everyone wanted to borrow notes from. You never forget a task, execute it flawlessly, and are as reliable as clockwork.

  • High Horsepower & Humility: High intellectual and physical energy. You eagerly solve big, complex, and ambiguous company problems, while having the humility to “roll your sleeves up” and do the dirty work without complaint.

  • Creative Thinker: Highly creative thinker who tends to find solutions that others don’t see or inappropriately dismiss. Not content to do the safe bet everyone else takes.

  • Relentlessly Resourceful (http://www.paulgraham.com/relres.html): highly proactive, does not quit, and finds innovative solutions with little guidance. Bias for action and ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Passion for Men’s Health & Development: interest in helping men develop a healthy masculinity. Demonstrates personal dedication and interest in health optimization (e.g. diet, exercise, sleep, focus, and relationships).

World-Class Benefits:

  • Premium Blue Shield Platinum PPO & HMO Plans (up to 80% coverage)

  • Full Suite: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance

  • Best-in-class 401K options

  • Flexible vacation/time-off policies

  • Liquidity of options whenever available

  • Extended options exercise window for loyal employees (3 months for every year of service; e.g. 1 year for 4+ year employees)
