Your missions

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief Credit Review Officer ("Director of Credit Review"), the Director of Analytics, Monitoring & Operational Excellence leads a team of professionals focused on strategic and tactical efforts and methods that develop and execute programs providing the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board and Senior Management with proactive and ongoing assessments of the level and direction of credit risk and the effectiveness and efficiency of credit management processes. This person consults with Credit Review team members to develop and apply data analysis and data visualization strategies to enhance the quality and effectiveness of credit risk assessments and ongoing monitoring activities. This Manager oversees and is a point person for Credit Review's use of various data marts and reporting. In addition, the Director is responsible for bank-wide Credit Review reporting, process improvement and change management, third party relationships and Credit Review quality control programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

  • Designs, builds and maintains various data analytical/statistical tools, visualizations and processes needed to support credit risk identification, measurement, reporting and monitoring and ensures adherence to key Department KPIs, such as Credit Review coverage monitoring.
  • Supports Credit Review in providing key data and reporting needed for ongoing examination and monitoring activities, both on a regularly scheduled and ad hoc basis.
  • Communicates with Business, Credit and Credit Process senior management, Internal and External Audit and Regulators in regards to Credit Review activities and process.
  • Maintain and update, with Director of Credit Review input, current department's Credit Review Program Policy and Procedures, including those of the Data Analytics Program.
  • Write and/or oversee the creation of complex programs and ad hoc queries by utilizing enterprise data to fulfill data analysis requirements.
  • Ensure that all code is developed in a well-structured manner, functions as required, is validated, includes sufficient comments, is well documented and is easy to maintain and reuse.
  • Bring structure to each data analytic request and translate requirements into an investigative approach to probe for hidden questions and trends within the data.
  • Maintain and execute the inventory of data analytics routines for continuous monitoring of defined activities.
  • Participate and/or oversee data analyst involvement, in the planning of exams/reviews and provide support to Credit Review in the execution of exams requiring data analytics.
  • Discuss results from the data analytics program with the Credit Review team and business line stakeholders
  • Works with various constituent groups to understand, review and make recommendations to improve access to and use of data and information sources.
  • Maintain positive team relationship by demonstrating and supporting initiative, willingness to learn, flexibility, respect,cooperation and commitment to the success of the Credit Review process.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and developments in data analytics by leading and/or attending seminars, training sessions, and workshops, as necessary to develop and ensure success of the department's Data Analytics Program.
  • High degree of proficiency in risk management policy and procedures; Basel and Heightened Standards and governance requirements.
  • Advanced level understanding of multiple business processes, risk systems and applications.
  • Works to lead the Department in continuous process improvement and professional practices standards.
  • Ability to lead people through high change environments for extended periods of time while also supporting fulfillment of business as usual requirements.
  • Understanding of /embracing the need for holding self, staffing, peers to higher performance standards
  • Travel 10% or more
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises function, projects or services, and responsible for associates that support execution of the Department's data analytics and professional practices.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, coaching; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field such as economics, finance, statistics, or mathematics required
  • Master's Degree in a quantitative field preferred

Experience

  • 10+ Years experience in financial services (banking, asset management, insurance, etc) with significant direct exposure to analytics and modeling applied to credit risk.
  • Experience in change management related to the adoption of new business processes required
  • Experience developing data analysis routines and documenting data extraction, transformation, and loading processes required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of data analytics and programming tools (R-Studio, OBIE, Access for SQL, Python, Github)
  • Knowledge of data analytics practices and concepts (for example: CAAT, trend analysis, data visualization, reasonability analysis, and regression analysis)
  • Knowledge of AWS Serverless Technologies (S3, Glue, Lamba, Step Functions, Eventbridge, Athena, Redshift)
  • Perform challenging data queries, data mining, reconcile data, analyze results and form conclusions for Credit Review and senior management
  • Translate analysis findings and technical topics, visualize data to explain results to a business audience and within Credit Review.
  • Understanding of credit risk models (PD, LGD, VaR, etc). This individual should be able to use this understanding to interpret results within Credit Review to assist in overall risk rating assurance
  • Creative ability to design and build large-scale processes with timely deliverables.
  • Knowledge of both commercial and retail loan portfolios and loan portfolio management, reporting and analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of data governance and data quality controls
  • Abilty to stay current (up-to-date) with regulatory changes, industry trends and emerging technologies and tools
  • Ability to directly or indirectly lead groups of people in large-scale projects with timely deliverables.
  • Strong organizational, change management and project management skills
