Job description

Velocity is seeking to hire a DevOps Engineer I. The DevOps Engineer I is responsible for deploying, managing, and optimizing system resources with a focus on cloud services while utilizing automation technologies. They have a deep understanding of systems architecture, containerization, and orchestration tools. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing automation processes to streamline operations and ensure consistent deployments of application systems.

This is a full-time remote opportunity.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to design, deploy, and manage application deployments
  • Build and manage containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and other orchestration tools
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment and configuration management processes
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, identify and troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and scalability
  • Implement and manage continuous integration and delivery pipelines to automate software delivery and deployment
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7/365 support for production systems
  • Write and maintain deployment documentation including diagrams, directions, and best practices
  • Research and investigate emerging infrastructure technologies and how those may be leveraged to enhance the deployment of company application systems

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in technology-related area or equivalent work experience.
    • 2+ year of experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or a related field
    • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, containerization, and orchestration tools
    • Strong experience deploying and managing a plethora of application systems
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
