Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Surveyor who will be responsible for inspecting utility poles and lines while also serving as a Supervisor and Trainer for our field crew. This role combines technical surveying skills with leadership responsibilities to ensure that our projects meet quality standards and are executed safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in utility surveying, experience in training and supervising field crews, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Surveying and Inspection:

  • Conduct thorough surveys and inspections of utility poles, overhead and underground lines, and related infrastructure to assess their condition and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Identify and document any issues or hazards found during inspections, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Use surveying equipment and software to collect accurate data and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to provide insights and feedback on field conditions.

 

Supervision and Training:

  • Lead, supervise, and provide guidance to a crew of field technicians, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for new hires and existing crew members on surveying techniques, safety procedures, equipment operation, and company protocols.
  • Monitor crew performance, provide constructive feedback, and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • Act as a point of contact between the crew and management, facilitating clear communication and resolving any issues that arise in the field.

 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all crew members adhere to safety guidelines and industry regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and audits, and maintain up-to-date records of training and certifications.
  • Report any safety incidents or near misses to management promptly and participate in investigations as required.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a field Surveyor, particularly in the utility industry (poles, lines, etc.).
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or training role.
  • Proficiency with surveying tools, equipment, and software.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively across different states as required by project needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Certifications in surveying or relevant field experience is preferred.
