Introduction to the Job

You will integrate into a team of HSE Design (Safety, Risk Quantification, Environment & Health, Noise & Vibration) engineers of the Technip Energies (T.EN) Company as Expert.

Reporting to the HSE Design Safety Department Manager, your role as Safety Officer will consist in providing technical support to the Safety Engineers working on T.EN Projects (Oil, Gas, Industry – Onshore and Offshore). You will also be in charge to develop and consolidate Department know-how in the Safety fields.

To carry out your mission, you will interact with the HSE Design Engineers and Head of Departments, the project Engineers and project Directors, the Client Representatives, the Partners Representatives and the other disciplines (Process, Piping, Civil and Offshore Structure, etc.).

About the Safety Department scope:

The Safety department scope covers:

  • Identify and qualify Major Accident Events,
  • Design and implement prevention, control, mitigation, and protection measures,
  • Provide safe design which ensure to protect Personnel, Environment and Assets,


by managing the Safety team of the project carrying-out the following activities and associated deliverables:

  • Preliminary risk analysis (*),
  • Safety reviews participation (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, etc.),
  • Plot plan reviews, and 3D model reviews
  • Identification of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) & associated Criticality rating
  • Hazardous area classification,
  • Passive fire-protection (*),
  • Cold spill protection (*),Active fire-protection (firewater pumps station design, fire-fighting network and deluge systems studies, hydraulic balance calculations),
  • Flammable gas, toxic gas and fire detection,
  • Personnel protection,
  • Escape, Evacuation & Rescue (*),
  • Specification and requisition for firefighting and personnel protection equipment, technical bid evaluation and vendor follow-up.


(*): All quantitative analysis (Consequence analysis, QRA, FERA, EERA, ESSA, etc.), Design Explosion Loads specification and RAM are out of Safety scope of work within T.EN Paris organization ; they are part of Risk Quantification activities.

Your principal duties will be to:

Provide technical support to the HSE Design Safety Engineers

  • Support engineers in selecting adequate tools and methodology to perform the above-listed activities and studies
  • Define / validate simulation tools settings (eg. Pipenet, Detect 3D, etc.)
  • Check / approve project deliverables
  • Contribute to Review or Audit as Chairman or Discipline representative


Develop Department capabilities in the technical fields of Safety

  • Consolidate project feedback
  • Ensure technology and regulatory watch
  • Prepare / update discipline typical and working instructions, interface procedures, etc.


Propose / manage Development activities

  • Define R&D needs in partnership with the Head of Department and follow the associated schedule and budget
  • Perform or supervise R&D activities (Method, Tool, Approach …) done in the Department
  • Mentor final-year engineering interns
  • Represent T.EN in R&D Projects such as JIP (Joint Industry Project) or within Association (e.g. PFPnet)
  • Train / Mentor Safety Engineers to Safety (Method, tools, softwares…)


Promote HSE Design activities and capability outside of the Department (Internally and Externally)

Deliver and manage quality services on proposals/bids or feasibility studies/ conceptual/ pre-feed projects (when necessary)

NB: All Risk Quantification, Environment & Health, Noise & Vibration activities are out of your scope.

Career path within the HSE Design entity will be offered to you: Safety Lead, HSE Design Lead, Head of Department.

Your profile:

Chartered Engineer (Chemical Engineering background, Process Engineering background or Safety Engineering), you have a significant experience of more than ten years in Technical Safety engineering in oil and gas industries, petrochemistry, energy transition, mining and/or pharmacy, using recognized approaches adopted on international Projects.

You are an expert in Technical Safety engineering (Risk analysis, Hazardous Area Classification, Fire & Gas Detection, Active and Passive Fire Detection, Personnel Protection, Escape Evacuation & Rescue).

You are an easy-going teammate to evolve and assert yourself in a multicultural environment. You have the following qualities: commitment, proactivity, strictness (including traceability of sources, comments & modifications), task planning and delegation, ability to interface inside and outside the HSED team, ability to easily communicate, ability to analyse/ solve problems and arbitrate technical choices, leadership.

Your English is fluent. Business trips (short time) in France and abroad are to be foreseen.
