We are currently looking for a highly motivated Senior Network Function Virtualization Engineer (M/F/D) to join our R&D team in Berlin or Munich. The Senior Network Function Virtualization Engineer is responsible for conceptionally designing next-generation network architectures that are based on virtualized network functions and implementing them in laboratory and productive environments.

Principle duties and essential functions

Design and Architecture:
  • Create scalable and reliable network architectures that meet the needs of carrier-grade environments.

  • Design and develop network function virtualization (NFV)-based solutions with a focus on Carrier Ethernet connectivity, VPN, SD-WAN, IPv4/IPv6 routing, and firewall technologies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Implementation and Deployment:
  • Implement NFV solutions using industry-standard platforms and tools.

  • Deploy and configure Carrier Ethernet products, SD-WAN, IPV4/IPv6 routing, and firewall functions in virtualized environments.

  • Automate deployment processes using scripting and orchestration tools.

Network Management and Optimization:
  • Monitor and maintain the performance of virtualized network functions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure high availability and reliability.

  • Optimize network configurations to enhance performance and efficiency.

Innovation and Improvement:
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in hypervisors, VNF, and communication protocols.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

Technical Expertise:
  • Extensive experience with NFV and related technologies.

  • Deep understanding of Carrier Ethernet, VPN, SD-WAN, IPv4/IPv6, and firewall technologies.

  • Knowledge about encryption technologies and protocols (MACsec, IPsec).

  • Proficiency in virtualization platforms (e.g., Proxmox, VMware, OpenStack and KVM) and network orchestration tools.

  • Experience with container architectures, container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes and private and public cloud architectures.

Networking Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols and standards, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and VLANs.

  • Extensive Experience with network automation and scripting languages (Ansible, NETCONF, cloud-init, Terraform, Python).

Security Proficiency:
  • Expertise in network security principles and practices.

  • Experience with firewall configuration and management.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.

  • Ability to design and implement efficient and effective network solutions.

Communication and Collaboration:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and lead technical discussions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related field

  • Experience with network function virtualization in a telecom or large enterprise environment.
