Your new role

My client is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to head its waste & resource management team. This role involves strategic planning, project management, technical expertise, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and leadership to the team, ensuring alignment with the growth strategy.
  • Guide the team to align with business strategies and market conditions.
  • Manage and mentor consultants, supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Allocate resources effectively, monitor project progress, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality reports, permit applications, compliance, and other deliverables.
  • Oversee the planning, scoping, and execution of projects, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and guidelines.
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans for efficient project delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate team and project activities, resolving any issues or conflicts.
  • Provide expert guidance to the team in conducting comprehensive environmental impact assessments.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, methodologies, and regulatory requirements to inform the technical direction of the team.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy and quality of technical assessments conducted by the team.
  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, NGOs, and project developers, to facilitate effective communication and address queries.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and guidelines throughout processes.
  • Keep abreast of changes in environmental legislation and proactively update internal processes and strategies.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and assist clients in navigating the permitting and regulatory approval process.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities to expand the team portfolio.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, industry partners, and regulatory agencies to secure new projects.
  • Prepare proposals, participate in client presentations, and contribute to marketing strategies to promote services.

What You'll Need To Succeed

  • A degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field, with a preference for a postgraduate qualification.
  • Extensive experience in environmental consultancy, ideally in a relevant discipline, with a proven track record of managing diverse projects across various sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines at both local and national levels; international expertise is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, capable of inspiring and motivating a team.
  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex environmental issues.
  • Professional membership in a relevant body is essential. Chartership is desirable.
