What You'll Do

This is an Indirect Tax Research profile. We are looking for an individual with expertise in researching tax law, reporting, and remittance requirements to keep our tax products in compliance with state, county, and local jurisdiction tax laws for use in Avalara Solutions. We are seeking an accomplished professional with a academic background and domain experience. We offer a unique opportunity to join a indirect tax research team within a growing Software as a Service (SaaS) company. You will report to Manager, Indirect Tax.

In this role, you will analyze and interpret complex tax laws and guidelines, understand changes, and be able to summarize and/or expand the information reported upon request. As a Tax Researcher, you will be responsible for sourcing, investigating, and analyzing US State and locally administered tax rules, rates, forms, and metadata changes promptly to integrate those laws into Avalara products.

What You'll Need to be Successful

Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of tax information demands research efforts. Given the dynamic nature of indirect tax laws and rate trends, a commitment to learning and staying updated on developments is necessary to remain in this role

  • Research U.S. taxes, research on federal and state taxes and regulations, ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure content accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of content, for Sales and Use tax and Lodging Taxes.
  • In interpreting tax laws and regulations to meet legal and regulatory standards.
  • Understand and navigate Tax Authority portals.
  • Collaborate with tax content research, product management, and engineering teams to implement content
  • Thoroughly document research findings in detail, providing comprehensive summaries and expansions upon request.
  • Be open to accepting additional responsibilities and occasionally overlapping work schedules with US/UK timing for collaborative meetings or training.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation, streamlining, and reducing redundancy to enhance efficiency.
  • Lead automation and tax technology projects from inception to completion, including project planning, stakeholder management, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
