Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting, the successful candidate will build and shape internal controls that will be used by Wealthsimple to ensure safeguarding of assets, accurate reporting and internal efficiency.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Be a strong voice and leader within the Finance team and across Wealthsimple by proactively shaping effective and efficient controls around existing processes as well as designing an effective IT General Controls (ITGC) structure for new products;
  • Plan, coordinate and execute all phases of the ITGC NI 52-109 / SOX program compliance;
  • Manage external auditors with respect to internal controls work and identify opportunities for audit efficiencies related to:
  • (1) Annual financial audit for all entities;
  • (2) SOC 1 Type 2 audit;
  • (3) Other audits requiring control work as they arise;
  • Take a hands-on approach to developing and maintaining ITGC process documentation including narratives, RACMs, flowcharts and test scripts; and evaluate controls as new systems & products are developed or processes change.
  • Perform ITGC testing including design & operating effectiveness testing, based on IT scoping and risk assessment; develop remediation plans and support stakeholders to remediate control deficiencies as necessary;
  • Create a cross-functional project plan and project manage ITGC aspects to ensure deadlines are met with high quality outputs;
  • Support preparation of materials, presentations, and other documentation as required for periodic management and Audit Committee meetings;
  • Provide internal controls training to control owners.

  • We're looking for someone who:
  • Has 5+ years internal controls experience including in public companies;
  • Has an internal control certification (CIA, CISA, CISM or similar);
  • Has strong project management skills;
  • Solid understanding of NI 52-109 / SOX and internal control concepts (e.g., COSO, COBIT, ITIL, ISO/IEC 27001).
  • Is passionate about technology, specifically fintech;
  • Is naturally curious and creative, self-starter and attentive to details;
  • Communicates effectively and is able to convey complex ideas succinctly; and
  • Has experience in a financial institution or technology company, and thrives in an agile workspace; 
  • Big 4 experience is an asset.
