Overview
The Senior Payroll Specialist provides critical internal customer service for Sage operations in the U.S. and Canada. This role performs all tasks to accomplish the timely and accurate processing payroll. Reporting to the Payroll and Expense Reimbursement Manager, provides valuable backup support when needed to ensure business continuity for employee expense reimbursement and ensures adherence with global and local guidelines. Will also support general ledger management, period-end closing, and payment processing on a current and timely basis as needed.
Primary job functions and responsibilities
- Process payroll for US and Canada timely and accurately, including special payroll runs
- Protect the confidentiality of employee data and transaction details
- Process changes including but not limited to withholdings per form W4, direct deposit accounts, 401k loans (review only), leaves of absence, payroll advances, etc
- Prepare wire and fund transfers; process garnishments and levies
- Fulfill state registrations and requirements in coordination with Tax & Compliance team
- Support the financial audit process through providing high quality data and documentation, and coordination with colleagues and other dependencies
- Ensure quality execution and compliance of Service Level Agreements by maintaining a positive relationship with internal customers and other departments with whom Accounting has critical dependencies
- Maintain current desktop procedures for payroll and expense claim processing
- Seek continuous operational improvement opportunities for increased effectiveness and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise accounting and payroll software packages, Paylocity desired
- 2+ years of U.S. and Canadian payroll processing and payroll tax experience
- SAP Concur Expense and Travel experience a plus
- Proficiency to support and provide excellent customer service to cross-functional team members, either through routine responsibilities or project work
- Adept at supporting multi-site and time zone operations
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-conscious environment with evolving priorities and achieve high quality output and accuracy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
