Why join us?

You’ve got great skills. And you want to use them in an organization where you know what you do every day matters. We get that.
We also know that ensuring Ontarians have access to affordable and reliable power doesn’t happen by accident. So we give you the tools, flexibility and support you need to achieve your goals, and development opportunities to help you grow. You’ll thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment that values your unique skills and experiences – and recognizes that when you do better, we become even better too.

Who we are

The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.

The opportunity

In this role, you will be leading the team responsible for developing and implementing ongoing enhancement of the IESO’s enterprise risk management and emergency preparedness functions.

During an extraordinary time for Ontario’s electricity sector, you’ll deliver excellence in risk management practices while providing independent oversight of mitigation effectiveness across all business areas.  To ensure the organization responds with resiliency to potential disruption, you will lead enterprise-wide planning and execution of IESO’s corporate business continuity program to achieve modernized Business Continuity Management practices.

What you’ll do

Risk Innovation, Strategy, Performance and Governance

  • Develop and implement enterprise, operational and project risk frameworks, methodologies, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure that elements of the IESO’s ERM framework continue to incorporate best practices and industry leading guidance
  • Evolve organizational value from cross linkages between risk controls, business continuity plans, enterprise business planning and project portfolio prioritization
  • As part of supporting strategy setting and annual business planning, recommend relevant performance measures linked to the IESO’s strategic objectives. Lead the identification of relevant data sources that enable regular data extracts to support Corporate Performance Measure reporting.

Risk Identification, Assessment and Reporting

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leaders across the organization to identify and mitigate risks
  • Facilitate operational and project risk assessments on key strategic initiatives and high visibility initiatives that provide an enhanced level of independent oversight
  • Implement innovative and insightful enterprise risk reporting and dashboards to support risk governance and decision making, including development of risk performance metrics (KPIs)

Business Continuity Management

  • Lead all work plans and collaborate with members of Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Response Team and other key stakeholders, to develop and implement plans that anticipate, address, and mitigate the effects of business interruptions
  • Serve as Management back-up support to the Chairs of the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Response Teams
  • Plan, establish agendas and hold meetings, training exercises and respond to emergencies

Leadership

  • Deliver future oriented leadership approach to anticipate changes in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment
  • Maintain effective customer relationships, and create mechanisms for continuous learning and change to achieve desired results within an evolving business context
  • Provide guidance, training and coaching to direct reports
