Job description

A bit about us

We’re Doccla, the virtual ward company. We provide patients and clinicians with the transformative power of remote patient monitoring.

Our existing customers are Hospitals, Community Services, and NHS Commissioners that we partner with to deliver tech enabled virtual wards. With our technology, logistics, and support patients can be discharged from a hospital ward to a virtual one and recover in the comfort of their own homes. Patients love our care pathways and health services become more efficient; it’s a win-win.

We are a young company with big aims and a lot of momentum. In the summer of 2022 we raised $18M in an oversubscribed A round led by General Catalyst, a top tier global VC fund and have gone from strength to strength since: we’ve won a series of large multiyear NHS contracts, extended 100% of our existing client contracts.

This is your chance to join us at a key stage of our growth. Our ambition is to be a category leader for virtual healthcare. You will be joining a highly entrepreneurial team that combines technical, clinical, operational, and commercial colleagues.

We're solving real problems for patients and health systems. we’re looking for dedicated people with a passion for healthcare.

Summary:

Doccla is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to support and contribute to our Cloud Platform team. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the development of our cloud platform capabilities, enabling the team to deliver high-quality software solutions iteratively and incrementally . You will work closely with product managers, other stakeholders and other teams to build a secure and resilient platform and to allow our product teams to quickly operationalise workloads that have compliance, security, observability, logging, and alerting baked in. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud and on-prem infrastructure, great leadership skills, and a passion for building platform tools that are used by our internal teams.

You’ll be:

  • Bringing a strong technical leadership to the overall strategy and direction of the cloud platform the team are building to enable Doccla to operate at pace and scale in the cloud
  • Building out an effective, modular, platform leveraging modern infrastructure as code patterns
  • Creating effective CI/CD delivery pipelines so that users can focus on doing the job, not deploying it
  • Ensuring that identity and access management deliver a secure and minimal platform while continuing to enable users.
  • Working cross functionally with the wider organisation to migrate existing infrastructure to the new platform.
  • Helping us track, understand, and optimise cloud spend
  • Building out processes, tooling, and most importantly culture around well-behaved and resilient systems across our product teams
  • Enabling product teams to own and run their own infrastructure, backed by solid provision around observability, alerting, and operability
  • Building out an effective HA/DR approach so that teams are serviced well around these needs
  • Helping with strategic challenges around our broader technical landscape
  • Creating 'secure by default' approaches on the platform, so that out of the box, teams are already enabled with an effective security and compliance posture.
  • Helping us to amplify best practice in the cloud through education, awareness raising, and evangelising, both without and outside the company

We’re looking for someone who:

Genuinely cares and enjoy helping your users, whilst balancing their needs with the business needs. You pursue tangible outcomes but have an incredible eye for detail. You have excellent interpersonal skills/EQ, you are a low ego learner and sharer. You pride yourself on your ability to collaborate closely with the whole team.

  • has proven expert in technical delivery, architecting, developing, and maintaining of cloud infrastructure that enables builder teams to do their best work.
  • has experience with:
    • AWS or GCP and automating infrastructure provisioning and continuous integration/delivery using Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or similar.
    • Modern CI/CD pipelines and gitops workflows
    • Development and scripting
    • Alerting and monitoring tooling, and building a sustainable on-call process
    • Running post-mortems and teaching the culture of devops to non-ops engineers
    • Disaster response, resilient systems engineering, and security automation
    • Cloud security and systems hardening
  • has a broad understanding of effective cost management as a key component of cloud platform administration.
  • has a bias towards action and a desire for mission-driven work
  • has excellent communication skills, including communication with less-technical staff
  • has experience working in and contributing to an environment that supports a diverse team
  • has a desire to mentor junior teammates and to build a team
  • has comfortable both with pair working, and with independent work managing their own projects; but is also confident with sense-checks and check-ins to avoid chasing too many issues down rabbit holes.
