Position Overview:
 
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Controller to join our finance team. This role is pivotal in overseeing the accounting operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. As a Controller at Upward Health, you will lead and mentor the accounting team while taking a hands-on approach in managing the company’s financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Lead and manage the annual financial audit process, working closely with external auditors.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the accounting team while participating in daily financial operations.
  • Interface with banks and insurance providers to manage relationships, secure necessary financing, and ensure adequate coverage.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Manage cash flow and collaborate with the FP&A team on forecasting and budgeting to ensure financial security.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of tax returns and other required filings.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports to stakeholders as needed.
  • Implement and maintain accounting software systems, with a preference for experience in Sage.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with a strong background in financial audits and financial statement preparation.
  • In-depth understanding of corporate tax matters.
  • Proven experience in leading and developing an accounting team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Sage or similar accounting software is preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment.
