Job Overview:

UFP Industries is a self-filer of Customs transactions. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate Customs clearance of shipments imported through numerous ports in the US and for using problem-solving skills to quickly resolve issues. This is a hybrid office/remote position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Uses 3rd-party software to enter and electronically transmit Customs entries and Importer Security Filings (ISF’s) for the importation of wood and other products from various countries to multiple destinations in the US.
  • Proactively monitors 3rd-party software for shipments placed on Customs or USDA Hold, then performs steps necessary to obtain clearance (e.g., arranging drayage to exam site, paying for exam, sending documentation to Customs/USDA, etc.).
  • Reviews commercial documents for accuracy and completeness, and requests revisions as needed.
  • Tracks and records status of inbound shipments to ensure timely filing of ISF’s, Customs entries, and to monitor the status of shipments on USDA or Customs Hold.
  • Communicates with freight forwarders, carriers, US Customs, import buyers, and logistics department as needed.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of tasks in order to avoid shipment delays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience and training in Customs Compliance, preferably as an entry writer
  • Knowledge of Customs Regulations and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
  • Solid understanding of Logistics and Customs terminology
  • Understanding of the international supply chain

Skills and abilities

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and ability to solve problems daily
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize workload
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to productively work remotely as needed
