Summary:

 

Alpha is looking for a talented Broadcast Systems Design Engineer (Audio SME) with experience in live production and networked audio technologies. The Engineer shall design and implement solutions for large venue, broadcast, sports, and entertainment clients.  The Engineer will work closely with the sales staff to provide both general and specific recommendations on equipment, technologies and implementation. Upon sale, the Engineer shall contribute to projects and implementation: provide drawings, manage documentation, and provide direction and assistance to field teams for successful deployments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with the Alpha Account Executive (AE) to establish customer needs and present solutions to customers.
  • Determine client expectations for system functionality through communication with the AE and client.
  • With the AE, recommend general and specific live production, audio and broadcast solutions to clients.
  • Design complete systems for quoting including equipment, parts, consumables and labor.
  • Write scopes of work to convey system expectations.
  • Respond to bid requests.
  • Diagram systems using AutoCAD or BlueBeam.
  • Coordinate with Alpha Project Management on project timelines, coordination of installers with end client, tracking of materials.
  • Act as an escalation point for Audio engineering issues, especially during commissioning of engineered solutions.
  • Research new products to remain current on technology solutions.
  • Attend trade shows and training as necessary to acquire and maintain industry certifications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of media system configurations, with an emphasis placed on live production workflow.
  • Extensive knowledge of distributed audio and loudspeaker systems for large venues, including familiarity with the lead manufacturers serving this market
  • Experience in designing rigging systems for hanging loudspeakers and loudspeaker arrays, including basic structural design skills
  • Good knowledge of acoustics, applied to large venue audio operations
  • Experience in using manufacturer-specific or generalized acoustic prediction software to design and model loudspeaker systems
  • Familiarity with SMAART or other software to tune audio systems
  • Experience working with networked audio, i.e. DANTE, including network architecture and requirements
  • Familiar with IT standards and network best practices
  • AVoIP / SMPTE knowledge & experience

  • Ability to solve unusual or unexpected technical or installation problems.

 

Preferred:

  • Previous employment with a broadcast systems integrator, as the lead Sound Engineer for front of house live production, or sports facility maintaining and/or designing systems infrastructure.
  • Experience designing and upgrading front of house, monitor, live broadcast digital sound stream mixing technology.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with programming and configuring Imagine, Evertz, Ross, Sony, Grass Valley, Panasonic, and AJA routers, switchers, cameras, servers, and plant distribution.
  • Knowledge of SMPTE network infra-structure such as switches, routers, traversal, trunking, etc…
  • Knowledge of display products and systems.

 

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Bachelors in Engineering or Business preferred
  • Certified Audio Engineer (CEA) preferred
  • DANTE Certification Level 3 preferred
  • Q-SYS Level 2 Certification preferred

A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in Audio design and implementation.
