Grants & Contracts Management Senior Analyst will oversee and manage all pre-award activities for assigned principal investigators as part of the COM Grants Management Office (GMO). The GMO submits over 1000 proposals each year to federal, foundation, and industry sponsors. Participates with the development and preparation of grant proposals in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI); serve as a resource for team members with proposal development; contributes to training of new staff; provides expertise in support of all pre-award activities,  creates budgets, provides expertise with the review of biographical sketches, resources, letters of support and other required administrative components of grant proposal submission; provides proposal development tools, aids and direct support to faculty; establishes appropriate sub-recipient budgets and documents as needed for grant submissions; which may include coordinating with other internal staff; locating relevant materials, formatting, and editing,  serves as contact on proposal submissions for assigned grants; coordinates submission of proposals with the Office of Sponsored Programs; investigates, evaluates; responsible for interpreting regulations and guidelines of program funding and ensuring those using funds understand such policies; participates in educational onboarding of new PIs and their staff; may take the lead in the preparation and submission of Training Grant or other large, complex applications; obtain documentation when a University contribution is proposed; may provide support for large, interdisciplinary program grant proposals; collaborates with GMO post award staff as needed. Utilize knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, foreign involvement/collaboration, biosafety, etc. Research, interpret, and develop written policies and procedures. Utilize enterprise systems such as research administration or financial systems; experience and skill using workload management, document management and workload tracking systems and dashboards to effectively manage a large volume of transactions at various stages and of various types. Contribute to compliance in financial policies and procedures by resolving compliance-related issues and reporting larger issues to management.  Responsible for interpreting regulations and guidelines of program funding and ensuring those using funds understand such policies.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Additional Education Desired

Certified Research Administrator or Certified Financial Research Administrator certification

Required Qualifications

5 years experience in research administration required including grant and/or contract management; considerable knowledge of grant & contract regulations required; experience working with federal or private agency sponsors required; Experience with all types of NIH award mechanisms, including grants, subawards, cooperative agreements, other transaction agreements. Demonstrated knowledge of NIH federal sponsor regulations, including OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance, NIH Grants Policy Statement, and cost-accounting standards. Basic ability to interpret terms and conditions of legal agreements.

Requires successful completion of a background check.  Selected candidate may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Experience with electronic research administration tools & systems preferred; familiarity with Workday financials & HR systems desired; certification as Certified Research Administrator (CRA) desired. Ability to think strategically and see how parts interact with the big picture; ability to effectively manage and execute multiple tasks, projects and priorities including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines; ability to identify issues, investigate, and resolve mid-size discrepancies; strong attention to detail and accuracy; excellent communication skills necessary in order to communicate intricate job-related processes.
