Overview & Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Performs mechanical tasks directed by the Lead.  Able to act as a Lead when business necessitates.  Able to locate manuals to locate drawings to find general technical data. Produces service income for Elliott Company. 

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of six years of experience with turbo machinery equipment 

  • Moderate knowledge of steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, generators, journal bearings, thrust bearings, speed increasing/reduction gears, couplings, compressor and turbine seals and shaft alignment a must.

  • Ability to lead small teams of 2-3 MS

  • Ability to take precision measurements.

  • Ability to maintain proper care and control of precision machined and operational critical components being disassemble and assembled.

  • Ability to maintain proper care and control of precision machined and operational critical components being disassembled and assembled.

  • Knowledge of basic principles of metallurgy, motor, pneumatic system, hydraulic system, pumps cooler, filter, valve controls, and troubleshooting a plus.

  • Good communication skills verbal and written (including technical writing) Computer skills (Specifically MS office/Lotus Notes)

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, layouts and schedules. Ability to follow schedules and update accordingly.

NATURE OF THE JOB

  • Principal activities of this job are understanding customer's problems and needs, collecting and recording product and technical information on each assignment i.e., data reports, etc.

  • Although some activities are covered by policy, precedent, or standard procedures, most of the work has to be planned and conducted by the Project Manager or Lead based on actual site requirements.

  • Must be willing to accept to work under varying conditions and different customers sites worldwide.

  • Decides proper tooling calibration, certification and loading 

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

  • Internal contacts: All levels of management and assigned employees in the following departments: Field Service Operations, Repair Shop Operations, Service Parts Operations, Technical Service, Re-rates and Modifications, Global Services Sales, Finance/Accounting, Legal/Contract Administration, HSE.

  • External contacts: Customers, Sales Service Engineers/Agents. Internal and external EHS auditors.

Travel requirements expected to be more than 50% and averages between 70% and 80%.  Must be able to travel internationally as required by business necessity.

WORK DIRECTION OF OTHERS

  • Position is generally one of individual contribution but needs ability to lead and direct small teams of 2-5 machinery specialists.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES

  • Performs overhauls of and installs turbo machinery as part of an Elliott team committed to safety, quality and cost effectiveness

  • Maintains an Elliott safety culture and has authority to stop work should unsafe conditions or practices be observed

  • Participates in and adheres to not only Elliott safety processes, but also customer site specific safety requirements

  • Adapt to unique situations in an industrial environment and execute proper work procedures and requirements per Elliott defined procedures and requirements

  • Ensures that all work under their control complies with Elliott best practices, is recorded accurately and communicates any deviations from the work scope, problems or delays to their supervision in a timely manner

  • Reduces commercial risk to Elliott through the prudent use of time and materials

  • Conducts themselves at all times in a manner befitting of a professional organization.

  • Ensures that all technical information is completed on the correct form supplied by the Lead and Project Manager

  • Conducts Job Hazard Analysis and risk assessments associated with tasks

  • Conducts safety observations and submits to supervisor or office for documentation

  • Submits accurate time and expense sheets to office

  • With management approval, responsible for local purchases to successfully execute job along with submittal of details of purchases to office 

  • Ensures that all Elliott records are updated relating to work performed

  • Maintains control or Elliott tooling and resources

  • Follows instructions and guidelines as described in the quality and EHS management systems in the execution of all work

  • Contributes to Field service Operations continuous improvement process as applicable
