Niyam is seeking a GIS Emerging Technology Developer in support of our work with FEMA. We offer competitive compensation and benefits. This position is remote, but may require some travel. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a deep understanding of geospatial data, data science, and emerging technologies. This role requires the ability to gather and analyze requirements, design and implement innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge geospatial applications
Role and Responsibilities:
- Geospatial Data Management: Manage, analyze, and visualize geospatial data to support various projects and initiatives.
- Data Science & Analysis: Apply data science techniques to derive insights and drive decision-making processes.
- Emerging Technology Integration: Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in the geospatial and tech space. Implement new tools and technologies that enhance our capabilities.
- Requirement Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and define technical and business requirements for projects.
- Innovative Solution Development: Design and develop innovative solutions to complex problems using the latest technologies and methodologies.
- Data Architecture: Design and maintain robust data architectures that ensure scalability, security, and performance.
- Data Visualization: Create compelling visualizations to communicate data-driven insights effectively.
- Project Leadership: Take ownership of projects, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including GIS analysts, data scientists, and software developers, to achieve project goals.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Must be a US citizen and eligible for security clearance
- 10+ years of experience in GIS development, emerging technologies, data science or related field.
- Proficiency in geospatial data management tools like ArcGIS and QGIS, and programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure.
- Experience with tools like JIRA, Git, and Subversion, and developing and designing RESTful APIs and web services using XML, JSON, and related technologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD technologies like Jenkins, and experience in automated QA frameworks such as Selenium, Cucumber, Jest, and JUnit/TestNG.
- Solid understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript.
- Strong understanding of data science techniques, data wrangling/manipulation, and data visualization.
- Expertise in spatial analysis methods and tools.
- Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML, blockchain, or IoT within the geospatial context.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of developing innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with FEMA RiskMAP and flood plain mapping.
- Familiarity with natural disaster risk assessment and mitigation modeling applied approaches.
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in GIS, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in GIS, cloud platforms, data science, or emerging technologies.
