This is a remote position.

Toast is recruiting on behalf of this company for a Senior Developer role that offers a unique opportunity to blend technical expertise with leadership. This position is designed for a seasoned developer who is ready to step into a leadership role quickly, contributing significantly to the company's technical direction and growth. The role involves working across a range of technologies, including GO, React, AWS, GCP, Azure, Next.js, and Node.js, while also providing the potential to lead and eventually oversee the entire engineering department. This is a full-time, remote position with occasional in-person meetings at the company's Calgary office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and direction to a team of developers, ensuring high standards of software development practices.
  • Project Management: Jump into ongoing projects to fill gaps when the team is short-handed, overseeing the entire software development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
  • Feature Development: Build new features from scratch, re-architect existing solutions, and handle migration projects as needed.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the growth of the product by working on technical architecture and product strategy in collaboration with the product team.
  • Team Growth: Help scale the team by leading smaller groups and mentoring junior developers, with the potential to eventually lead the entire engineering department.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering lead and other stakeholders to align on project goals and deliverables.

  • Experience: Proven experience as a senior developer with a track record of taking on leadership roles. Experience with managing or leading a team is highly desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks, with a strong emphasis on GO, React, AWS, GCP, Azure, Next.js, and Node.js.
  • Adaptability: Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and work across a variety of tech stacks.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex technical challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to transparency and open communication.
